Grandparents Gift

Any suggestions for a decent gift for grandparents? It's our DCs first Christmas. The grandparents are young, don't have many interests or hobbies, but help us out loads so want to say thank you.

A hamper of indulgent Christmas breakfast (pastries, champagne, orange juice, fancy honey and jams) perhaps.

It's tricky because most people do have interests (reading, pets, travel if only daydreaming about, gardening, current affairs, or of course sports whether participating or just following, hill walking, good wine/ craft beer/ good whiskey... baking, knitting, art, films/ cinema, a certain genre of TV series even) if not Hobbies with a capital H type big hobbies. I'm sure they're interested in something ...

Theatre tickets, voucher for their favourite restaurant. Overnight stay in a hotel?

Lulu2171 · 15/12/2022 05:57

Tickets to a show?

A night in a nice hotel?

Something baby-related?
eg hand and foot prints, picture of baby actual birth size (notonthehighstreet.com), calendar for 2023 with a picture of the baby every day (possibly with other family members on the month of their birthdays).

A nice cosy throw, chocolates and a book voucher

Depends on your budget, but we always appreciate being taken out to dinner. One of the best presents we had was being invited to go to Center Parcs - they paid for us and we all had a fab time.

Taking them out for a day
If they like to decorate for Christmas, a really nice ornament which they can take out each year to remember your child's first Christmas?
Theatre tickets or any other show they may enjoy
Something for the garden if they have onne

A calendar with pictures of your baby on it?

CoffeeChocolateWine · 15/12/2022 10:16

Is it meant to be a gift from your baby? If so...
Photo calendar
Photo in a nice photo frame
Plate or plaque with their footprints/handprints on
Photo mug
This granny/grandpa belongs to... keyring

Oh wow loads of suggestions. They won't use a hotel voucher or show tickets. They'd be delighted to receive them but then they'd go to waste. 😅 And like honestly no hobbies. They do the garden as a chore rather than enjoyment, not into sports, or crafting or reading or music. Work, watching a bit of tele and repeat.

Love the centreparcs idea and the photo calendar. I did think of a hamper but at a bit of a loss as to what to put into it.

Thanks everyone

M n S do nice gift hampers that come in a resusable bag. Available online. We received one last year and have gifted them to others.

I got my mum and step dad personalised gran and grandad mugs from a beautiful pottery place, I only ordered last week and already delivered. I looked at Emma Bridgewater, but ended up getting them a small independent pottery place I found online, the stuff looks beautiful. I got them the pint sized mugs as they both like their hot drinks.

Theater tickets or restaurant vouchers
Museum tickets
Certificates to art or dance classes if they are interested in that
If you want it to be related to their new grandparents status, could be t-shirts, mugs, maybe a framed family photo collage that includes pictures of the baby as well
Onto the DIY part, could be personalized christmas tree ornaments or you can make a picture calendar with family photos and birthdays
Edibles are always welcomed

It sounds like this could be a running problem. Could you do an annual weekend away for you all covering both Christmas & birthday presents?

This is a very good point!! I will suggest this to the rest of the family and see! Good thinking. They won't do a weekend on their own but if the whole family heads off together for a night or 2 it could suit them! They are so young like you'd swear I was describing people in their 80s just sitting at home 😅

A hamper is a nice idea. Especially if you put it together yourself as you can mix nice food they’d like with cosy socks, candles etc.

A Christmas ornament from your DC is a lovely idea. You’re too late for Etsy now I think, but perhaps a pottery place where you can paint a footprint might be an option. That takes a week to “cure”, so would need to be booked quickly.

TheCallOfTheMild · 16/12/2022 10:23

We're grandparents and we love getting theatre, museum, hotel, cinema vouchers, or garden centre vouchers. I wouldn't appreciate a hamper, or chocolates or a throw. Hate getting toiletries, but love expensive socks!

It's difficult if they genuinely don't have any interests and won't go away just the 2 of them. If family is their sole focus, we love getting things our grandchild has made, or framed photos to add to the shrine 😀
