What does Father Christmas bring UK

Sallyh87 · 14/12/2022 22:30

Im not from the UK but have lived here for years and have a DD here. When I was little Santa brought all the big stuff but I’m getting impression from MumsNet in the UK Santa brings the stocking fillers.

This is the first year DD is conscious of Santa and gifts etc and I want to get it right! I want to set the precedent for years to come.

So in your opinion, what gifts is Santa responsible for?

Just stocking fillers in my house

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/12/2022 22:32

Just stockings in our house too

stormelf · 14/12/2022 22:33

Stockings and one small present in my house. The stocking fillers are the little things the children have asked Father Christmas for e.g. van toy, dress up jewelry

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 14/12/2022 22:33

Father Christmas brings all except gifts given by family and friends.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 14/12/2022 22:33

Father Christmas was a sort of delivery man in our house. He delivered all the presents butvtheycwere all from different people

twoandcooplease · 14/12/2022 22:34

I was always told 'see what Santa brings' or 'ask Santa' then when Christmas morning came there maybe 1/3 with tags signed from santa and the rest were from mum

I really don't think there is (or should be) a rule. Do what will make your child's day magical

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 14/12/2022 22:35

He brings all the gifts from me. But I pay for them so, dd knows that Father Christmas can't bring everything she asks for.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 14/12/2022 22:36

Just stockings in our house but amongst my friendship group it varies widely from everything to one gift on Christmas Eve.

NatalieIsFreezing · 14/12/2022 22:36

Just stockings. All other presents are from family etc and are under the tree.

Far easier all round esp when one dc knows about Santa but others don't!

DorothyCannoli · 14/12/2022 22:37

I would play by how feels right for you and your family over time. Our rules are you can't ask Santa for anything expensive like a games console or a bike, or an animal/pet

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 14/12/2022 22:38

Father Christmas brings all the gifts in this house.

Presents from other family members are directly from them.

QueenOfThorns · 14/12/2022 22:38

One present from her list, plus little stocking filler toys and chocolate.

eelieza · 14/12/2022 22:38

I grew up in scotland I got big presents off santa and off mum

underneaththeash · 14/12/2022 22:38

Just stockings here too. That way you can say if something’s too expensive.

UnbearableLoss · 14/12/2022 22:41

Santa brings what they asked for on the list but I stand over them and make sure it's kept short so not a monster list like I used to do (sorry mum). They also get surprises off Santa which is basically chocolate, pens and books which go in the stocking which is actually a pillowcase.
The wise thoughtful presents that DC don't even realise they wanted come from me.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 14/12/2022 22:43

Just a few little stocking fillers. He delivers all the gifts that have been bought by family and friends.
We never gave the kids the impression that Santa paid for everything. Makes it easier for them to understand they can't have everything they want and they can thank the people (not Santa) for buying them gifts.

ShesThunderstorms · 14/12/2022 22:44

In our house he brings the "main" present and fills the stockings.

Divebar2021 · 14/12/2022 22:44

In our family FC only brings stockings - this is partly to explain why different children may get wildly different levels of presents.

DappledThings · 14/12/2022 22:46

Just stockings for me too. Was always that way for me growing up and for DH so we've continued. Everything else is from who it is from and appears under the tree whenever we get organised to buy and wrap it. No big reveal on Christmas morning.

But there's no all UK way. You'll get loads of different ways of doing it.

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/12/2022 22:47

All bar a couple of things from parents

We did it this way too.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/12/2022 22:48

Father Christmas just brings stockings in our house, big presents from whoever gave them. Makes it a lot easier all round, less to do in secret, more realistic lists and FC doesn't get all the credit!

hellosunshineagainxxx · 14/12/2022 22:48

Same

LosingTheWill2022 · 14/12/2022 22:51

It's always just been stockings in my family. Small bits and bobs not big presents. Proper presents are from people.
I remember being aware of differences in other families e.g. some had pillow cases not stockings and had big presents from Santa but it didn't matter to me.
The excitement was just as great.
And as a parent it is much easier to manage! - no unrealistic expectations of what Santa can do!

thismeansnothing · 14/12/2022 22:51

Kids write a letter to father Christmas. He picks 1-2 things from the list and stocking presents. The rest come from us parents and family.
