My 9 year old is getting:
Set of Percy Jackson books (£10 from the Works)
Harry Potter 50p
Harry Potter board game
Minecraft Heroes of the Village board game
Exploding Kittens game

One of his favourite things at the moment is a mini tabletop pool table.

Lego. Switch games, oldie, beanbag

Saisong · 14/12/2022 08:51

Exploding kittens game, or similar ilk like throw throw burrito or taco cat goat cheese pizza.

Rope lights

If they're sporty grip socks tend to be popular this year

Snuzzle · 14/12/2022 19:18

Thanks everyone

13 year old is quite sporty so that's something to think about. The only switch game he plays is fifa so any others would be a no go

9 year old is into Spider-Man and Roblox but doesn't really enjoy reading or board games - he's dyslexic and gets frustrated easily when he struggles with something

They both already have gaming chairs so no room for beanbags

Grip socks from
Gain the Edge are 4 pairs for £22 if that helps?

I’ve just bought my daughters a pindaloo each . They look great fun and would suit those ages

flowerycurtain · 14/12/2022 21:44

My dyslexic 9 year old has got:
(His first switch)
Yo yo
Lego
Book of poo jokes (from Santa)
A book recommended by the Dyslexia association for 9 year old boys who don't like reading and like gaming!!
A little bag to wear when we go away in our caravan
Slippers
Make your own bow and arrow set a bit like knex

Previous things that have gone down well - his own tool kit (best £35 ever spent at screwfix!)

BangingOn · 14/12/2022 22:01

@flowerycurtain would you mind sharing what the recommended book is? DS is being assessed for dyslexia, loves stories and gaming but hates reading.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 14/12/2022 23:58

DD is dyslexic. She hasn't looked back since she got a kindle as she can make the font as big as she likes. I know iits outside your budget but bought it might be useful to try if there is one in the house. Plus they live a gadget. She started Harry Potter at a ridiculous size font and was totally absorbed by them at 9.

He might enjoy also Rabbit and Bear books. Borderline too old for them but they are funny and beautifully illustrated.
Wicked Uncle has some silly things and it's a useful website as they group by age too. I've found a game about ridiculous ways people have died, true or false sort of thing. It will appeal to DDs (13) sense of humour.

@BangingOn it was this one. I think there's a series
