Can anyone give me some advice

My friends moved to Canada earlier this year and she's just sent some gifts (I had no idea we were doing gifts!!)

And now I need something ASAP to get there for Christmas

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Fortnums and M&S don't seem to send their hampers to Canada it's not letting me put that address in x

Hazeltons do nice hampers.

SuperstarDJsherewego · 11/12/2022 09:53

Betty’s might send there? I’ve just sent a coffee and tea delivery with a Canadian company called Murchies, no idea how it will be though!!

Are they a Canadian company??

@Fivemoreminutes1 Yes. Your recipient will have to pay duty and tax if you order something from the UK and have it shipped.

You can order stuff on the Canadian Amazon site, Amazon.ca. It would be delivered direct to them so you obviously can’t wrap it but you can add a gift message, I’ve done this loads of times

fallfallfall · 11/12/2022 16:45

@OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside F&M do do them. I’m in Canada and regularly order for myself. See if these key words help.

Where in Canada? You can order alcohol online - SAQ in Québec, LCBO in Ontario. I don't know the other province's local wine suppliers

fallfallfall · 11/12/2022 19:09

the unfortunate thing about the SAQ orders is they need to be picked up :(

I have family in Canada, and I find this tricky so hoping other people come up with suggestions. But it is best to send direct from Canada. I use Uber Eats and change my address to theirs, I have sent boxes of cookies or donuts like Tim Horton's, they do festive ones. This actually works out really cheap. I also have used Amazon.ca many times to send family board games or hamper type things or gingerbread, or KitKat house building kits.

Don’t send them Timmie’s, that’s gross. What province are they in? Canadians (like me) can potentially make suggestions if we know where they are.

I have family in Toronto. I usually use Amazon.ca to send gifts. A lot of retailers won't accept UK credit or debit cards if you try to order direct from them online. Amazon.ca is one that does.
My son has found it the other way to, UK often won't accept Canadian cards either.

I’m a Brit living in Canada for 13years now, honestly I hate getting Amazon stuff.

Also Tim Hortons Doughnuts shouldn’t be given as a gift.

I don't see why they can't be sent as a gift, if token presents is the done thing in the family. If my Canadian family have used the internet to send me or a teen in my family a box of Subway cookies on a birthday, or selection boxes at Christmas, why can't I send them a big box of donuts? You don't know how each family does gifting and what is suitable to them in terms of quality of the gift.

It may seem substandard to you, but some people, just knowing they have been thought of and someone has gone out of the way to arrange a delivery of an inexpensive treat overseas is enough to feel remembered and cared about. Sorry if Amazon or fast food aren't up to your high standards, but it's not up to you to declare what is acceptable for others.

I agree. It would be like sending McDonalds apple pies.

Oh, and be aware that food you packaged yourself could take ages to get to Canada. I had someone send me a secret Santa gift containing chocolate and I got it in March 😩
I also sent myself something that I couldn’t physically carry back from the UK 6 weeks ago. I’m still waiting. Canada Post - if you have to use them - are shite.

I wouldn't knock back an Uber delivery of Mcdonalds apple pies.

Bonkersworknonsense · 17/12/2022 14:14

Well, in sending food be aware of their taste. If someone sent me Tim Hortons it would go straight in the bin or donated.

Have a look here. Loads of alternatives to Amazon (and Tim’s, though there seem to be lots going up around the U.K. for any displaced Canadians wanting a fix of timbits!)

Ive ordered quite a few things from different shops for different cities from this site
