What to get the DM/DF who has it all!

My DM is amazing, she and DF have DD twice a week childcare, and they just do so much for me and my DSis. They are wonderful grandparents and DD adores them. They support DH and are always thinking of us whether it's via babysitting offers or picking us up milk and food when they know bills are a bit tight (never asked!).

The issue is, they are hard work at Christmas. They always say they don't want anything and can never suggest anything. They buy throughout the year so always have what they want/need. I want to buy them something lovely though (individual gifts, they have very different tastes).

DM is very glamorous and fun loving, glitzy and loves luxury/finer things/holidays etc. ideal location Santorini.
DF is traditional, quirky, sturdy. Is happy with simplicity. He loved Amsterdam. Both of them are family people and love having a full house of me/DH/Dsis/my DD.

We have high nursery bills so my budget atm isn't going to be better than £200/250 total for both of them.

Any ideas? They deserve so much, my ideal gift would be an amazing all inclusive luxury family holiday but that'd be a £6000-8000.

How about a personalised family print of your parents with the grandchildren (like cartoon versions from artists on Etsy) where you select how everyone looks and what they wear etc. My friend did one for her parents and they loved it, and it’s a real talking point when they have visitors. Not expensive, but shows real thought.

Consumables, ie luxury brands/versions of food and drink that they might not buy for themselves.

Otherwise Singapore's idea is good.

I’ve done a hamper this year. Ive gone for a few ‘luxury’ items and then some cheaper stuff or luxury versions of cheaper stuff. So some beautiful honey, and then some biscuits and crackers n things like that from harrods, I got a Jo malone candle (but one of the smaller ones!), a really expensive cuticle oil and then bulked it out with some cosy socks and nice pjs and things like that that will be used anyway
for DF I did the same, I got him some gadget things he likes, a beautiful book I know he’ll love, some expensive chocolates and coffee and a really nice pen and cigar.

They’re all good quality things but each quite affordable on their own, I’ve spent around £100 each. I’m hoping they seem like thoughtful gifts and at least everything will be useful

you could include photo books, tickets, games they can play with everyone on Christmas Day, or an activity to do with DC in jan, food, wine or anything else they like. I find it easier to find good things because as part of a hamper there’s less pressure on any one element to be perfect

Tickets to Glyndebourne next summer and do them a picnic (my tip: keep it extremely simple). They get the anticipation and then enjoy the thing itself.

My mum loved a flower subscription last year - would highly recommend Arena flowers!

neonleopard · 10/12/2022 20:44

Or the Pengaligons scent library, I nearly got one for my DM this year but have got her a Ciora sheepskin hot water bottle instead.

I also love the idea of a homemade book subscription - choose 12 books you think someone would like and wrap them up one per month, maybe with a little treat or gift? I saw someone else suggest printing an old photo as a bookmark for each which I thought was lovely. Even better if charity shop found books! Could do a mix for DF based on interests - mix of novels and non fiction??

Love these ideas - thank you very much everyone
