Is the v-tech one any good?

My 7 year old has asked for this but I am worried it looks a bit babyish so still deciding whether to buy it.

My two boys both have the Fitbit kids watch and they love it. They are 8 and 10 but they’ve had it for a few years and it’s still going strong. If you have Tesco Clubcard vouchers you can exchange them for 3 x the value to use on the Fitbit website.

I'm not very tech savvy, but why would you want to buy a Smartwatch for a child? How much do they cost, what are the benefits?

Genuinely puzzled...

The vtech one isn't really a smart watch in the adult sense. It is a digital watch with a few games and a camera, you can't connect it to a phone.

My DD 9 has a fitbit. She had the vtech when she was younger but has outgrown it now really.

Well, like literally every product on earth, there are different ones at different prices.
I imagine she wants to buy one for her child because it’s what they’ve asked for.

My 9yo is getting the sky kids smart watch. It's 7.00 a month.

Obviously not used it yet to review it though!

To pp.

I'm getting it for her as she wants to walk to school and to play out on the estate and it's for my peace of mind. I can track on it, set boundaries so it will assist me if she goes out of area, and if course she can call us on it. Hth.

My DS got a Tikkers watch as he was interested in counting his steps and knowing what time he has to come home from the park.

Quite simple to use and does the job.

(not sure what the 1 star review is about - it’s pretty robust)

Btw there’s no monthly subscription needed with the Tikkers one and you can’t call/text anyone - I didn’t think those functions were necessary for a 9 yr old!

Where did you get this idea from? They want one for Christmas regardless what I think, that's usually how this time of the year works! 😆

@SleeplessWB that's what I thought tbh.

@Filterphobia I didn't even think of fitbit.

The v tech one is too young, it's also not very good.

I need to work out actually what they want the smart watch for eg counting steps, taking photos.

So I think no to the vtech one, I don't want to waste money.

This is what my boys have but they use it mainly for steps and as a watch to tell time.

My DD7 has the bar in vivofit, does steps, has timers for things like teeth brushing etc. I have the app and I can set her tasks to do and give her ‘coins’ and then she can earn rewards or whatever. She really likes it and it’s not too expensive.

Dd9 has Garmin Vivofit, been going strong for 3 years. No charging needed and we've only just needed to change the battery (easily done yourself with a tiny screwdriver). No camera or calls. It tells the time and counts steps. Activity gains coins which can be used in the in app game on a tablet/phone.
