We bought DS a rocking lion and some books. That's literally it but then I've realised our 3.5yr old has 3 good size toys and loads of books and other bits and bobs and he will definitely notice the disparity between them botso now I'm looking at a zig zag car ramp thing but I think I need maybe one or two more items for the baby
So looking for some inspo please!

Do they really have a concept of gifts at that age? I have gifts for my 5yo and 3yo but wasn’t planning on getting anything at all for my 1yo. He’ll be very happy playing with the wrapping paper. It hadn’t occurred to me to feel guilty about this!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 09/12/2022 21:43

No the baby won't have a damn clue but the 3.5 yr old will definitely notice!

Your 5yr old will surely notice no gifts for baby! Why did Santa not get the baby a gift??

See this is what I think will happen but maybe it won't 🤔

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy my baby will only be 4 months at Christmas and won't know any different but my 3yo will certainly be asking why his brother has no presents from Santa so know where you're coming from!

Obviously things will be different for you with your baby being one but we've wrapped up a dressing gown, some Christmas pjs and development toys like stacking blocks etc

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/12/2022 00:24

Yes it's the older ones that notice this stuff. It's funny how much they know actually!
I just bought a Grimm's teething toy thing, the car zig zag ramp and I'll deffo get pyjamas for his stocking and maybe a sippy cup and socks or something.

Tomy Toomies Hide & Squeak Eggs
Ride on vehicle
Mega Bloks
Stacking cups/rings
Sensory books
Ball pit
Bath toys

Rudolphscarrot · 10/12/2022 11:08

Half of my 10 month oldest gifts are practical. Personalised dressing gown, blanket, backpack and reins for when she starts walking etc.

Toys wise, a tractor with animals and the melissa and doug latchboard went down very well at that age

sjxoxo · 10/12/2022 11:17

DS is 11 months and he has a hand puppet, a few toy trucks (second hand) and an animal puzzle. I’ve got a couple of little bits for his room- some glow stars, giant bubbles, and a sensory ball. I’ve made him a couple of crochet teddies aswell. He has no older sibling but I think just a handful of little pressies is enough! I would worry about what your 3yo makes of it. Tell them he’ll have more when he’s old enough to play with more. X

WhatHappenedToYoyos · 10/12/2022 11:18

Practical things that I won't have to buy later down the line: 12-18 month sleepsuits/pjs, body lotion, bubble bath, body wash (treating to a nicer brand but in reality the baby won't know 😂), books, snow suit.

Ironically they're going to want their older sibling's unwrapped boxes/paper but atleast what I've bought is useful for the future.

AegonT · 10/12/2022 15:12

We've got 19 month old DD a very small balance bike and a Playmobile 123 Farm set.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/12/2022 16:16

Oh yes forgot about the bubble bath and lotion that's good stocking fillers :)

Yes I imagine they will both spend the day playing in cardboard boxes ripping up wrapping paper!

Just wrapped five gifts with the help of my 3 yr old. He did the cutting of paper and sellotape so that was quite good :) a top of you need a helper :)

I'd personally just explain to the 3 year old that Father Christmas knows baby doesn't need much as they're so young. We are getting small things (he was given a second hand little tikes car and scuttlebug which we haven't actually given him yet too tbf)

We're only getting our 11 month old for xmas and birthday:
Wind instruments
Books
Cuddly toys
Shape sorter
Sensory foil
Cocomelon weebles
Postman pat figures

S0upertrooper · 10/12/2022 16:36

My wee one was 9 months for his first Christmas and I filled a huge box with balloons and wrapped it up. He spent the day playing in the box, it was lovely.

ChessieDarling · 10/12/2022 16:39

A little electric ride on quad bike and helmet
A Grassmen polo shirt
A pair of wellies
A couple of books
Two more Britains tractors for his collection

He’s definitely a farm kid 🚜

FixItUpChappie · 10/12/2022 16:48

I always bought my kids stuff for Christmas even when babies - these milestones are for parents as much for children and IMO that is absolutely fine. Fine to get something and fine to not - whatever you find most fun for yourself.

I bought a Cloud B tranquil turtle for each of my children and they were cherished and used for years. That might be an idea? The ones we have play music, ocean waves, project water on the ceiling. When they stop using them (9 and 12 now, still using them) - I will put them in their keepsake boxes.

NoNamesLeft234678 · 10/12/2022 17:28

Mine will be 16 months old 2 days after Christmas and he is getting a play kitchen with play food, utensils and a toaster/coffee machine set. He's also getting a gymnastics bar and a VTech Grow and Grow ride on (used and bought for £20 on marketplace). I suppose all 3 of them are 'main' presents. He's also getting 4 puzzles, pjs, a t-shirt from where he does gymnastics, 2 little toy cars, a cory carson toot toot car, a shopping trolly, a light up wand, a blow up inflatable sensory ball, a happyland school bus, an ELC fish bubble machine and snack bars chocolate orange baby snack bars.

Santa is getting him a:
Want - Drum
Wear - Cocomelon pjs
Need - First Shoes (still need to buy these but thinking dinosaur converse)
Read - The Dinky Dory Book and Teddy Set

Then there's his stocking and Christmas eve box.. 🤷‍♀️🙈

Jesus that is a lot of stuff!
Gymnastics bar sounds good though, can you show me what one you got please?
My boy is a climbing rascal and I said to DH all the things we got him are not very active!

We do have ride on stuff that are his older brothers plus kitchen etc already have so it's tricky thinking of new stuff!

Aw that sounds nice!

My mum got Ds a balloon for his first birthday a couple of weeks ago and he played with it loads and loads. In fact I only just binned it today. I may get a Santa balloon for them both to play with!

Just another thing to say @NoNamesLeft234678 you're little one may get really overwhelmed opening all of that. Maybe you can do it in bursts over the day? Do you need to do a Xmas eve box?!

This is my favourite thing I've got my 1 year old Peekaboo Talking Singing Moving... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08ZYTCDLY?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

Really good ideas here as my boy will need a bag for nursery. I was so close to buying the boys matching dressing gowns but my husband said the 1yr old will just wriggle out of it and the three yr old is very very fussy with clothing so probably won't wear.

But I do love the idea!

Oh yes that'll go down so well.

Aldi have a bouncing talking Tigger or Winnie the pooh I'm toying with buying but i am getting annoyed with all the toys we already have so I can envisage me getting annoyed with all the new stuff soon enough too.

Need to do a big clear out

Smogtopia · 10/12/2022 18:56

Get some 'big' cheap gifts for the 1 year old or you'll just be drowning in toys. A large box of blown up balloons / a big second hand teddy - I too am 'gifting' my tiny baby a similar-ish pile of presents to my 5 year old to look fair and keep up the Santy illusion but I'm wrapping up second hand bits to bulk up (some even from my eldest that were packed up in the loft)

Brunilde · 10/12/2022 19:07

I've bought one new toy and then wrapping up a load of the eldest's old ones we put in the loft. Mainly so eldest doesn't question why santa hasn't got his brother anything.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/12/2022 19:13

See this is where I've gone wrong and haven't taken many of the older ones toys away for him to forget and he also seems to have a memory like an elephant. I am actually worried by how much he can remember!
