Vegan Hamper help please

I've been looking online for a vegan hamper for my lovely neighbours. There's not a huge choice and some of them seem very over-priced for what you get.

So I'm thinking of putting one together myself and my question is, which are the best shops to get vegan products from please? I'm thinking of 'treats' rather than everyday stuff. I know M&S have a vegan range but do they do treats as well? Do any other shops/supermarkets do good vegan stuff please?

If you live anywhere near the CF62 postcode I can recommend an excellent vegan deli

Leeds2 · 09/12/2022 19:38

Not exactly a treat, but I can recommend the Hellman's vegan mayonnaise. I think it is better than the original.

I always make a stocking for DD and her partner, and put in chocolates etc. Holland and Barrett have some really nice sweets and chocolates in at the moment. I’ve got them some Bouja Bouja chocolate which is on offer. I also got DD some Buttermilk chocolate orange slices, which I am hoping will be a bit like Terrys chocolate orange which she used to love at Christmas. She also likes vegan marshmallows, chocolate covered honeycomb, and vegan Percy Pigs.

Vegan wine and beer might be a possibility, they stock that now in most supermarkets. Fancy crackers, nuts, menjool dates, jam, relish etc. There’s loads of stuff around.

We have a couple of vegan shops nearby too, but I’ve not gone there this year.

Why don't you put a post up on a vegan Facebook group? Sooo so many ideas on there and there are actually loads of foods that are 'accidentally vegan (ie not specifically labelled but doesn't contain any animal products).
Jelly tots, jammie dodgers, party rings, nomo chocolate is nice, candy kittens, biscoff spread, loads of Crisps are vegan

SchrodingersKettle · 09/12/2022 19:50

Maybe some interesting speciality ingredients like pomegranate molasses, a gorgeous bottle of balsamic drizzle dressing, and/or some cool foreign foodstuffs (you can get vegan boba tea if you look around for example)

rumred · 09/12/2022 19:50

If you have a local wholefood shop they'll have loads of stuff. There's a few online ethical stores, was a really good one in Bradford but I can't find a link

curlymacv · 09/12/2022 19:51

A decent sized m&s foodhall will have LOTS of good vegan treats in it. One local to me has vegan chocolates, vegan truffles, vegan Christmas cake, vegan shortbread, vegan fudge.... And so on 😋

MsDastardly,

Terry's does a vegan Chocolate Orange bar that's not too bad

Ooh thank you. I’ll have a look for that. I’m sure there’s a market for a vegan chocolate orange!

MsDastardley · 09/12/2022 20:14

Bendicks mints are also vegan. As @Heyln said, there are loads of accidental vegan things around.

EezyOozy · 09/12/2022 20:15

Holland and Barrett and waitrose best bets.

Vegolino are very good.

tyne chease very good imo

Cleome · 09/12/2022 20:18

Some Waitrose stores are stocking Fauxmagery cheese boxes. If no nut allergies, I recommend! I'd be DELIGHTED if someone bought me this. Booja booja is great chocolate, as is hotel chocolate's vegan selections.

GimmeBiscuits · 09/12/2022 20:34

Aldi is good for vegan stuff.

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/12/2022 20:46

thevegankind.com is my go to, and they have a huge selection that is worth a browse for inspiration if nothing else.

dancingqueen123 · 09/12/2022 21:27

Surely the dark Terry's chocolate orange is vegan?!

LittleBowSheep · 09/12/2022 22:05

Thank you for all your great suggestions. There's loads there for me to look through 😁

Nope it contains milk sadly

Waitrose do boxes of vegan mince pies in their Christmas range.

LittleBowSheep · 11/12/2022 13:37

I popped into my local Tesco yesterday to see what they had to offer in terms of vegan products. There was very little in the way of 'treats', despite having a huge section devoted to Christmas food items. I managed to find a box of mince pies but that was about it. I also had to spend ages checking the labelling on lots of products to see if it was suitable for vegans or not.

I'd have thought in this day and age that there would be a lot more products available and also that labelling would be clearer . I'm sure vegans must find it frustrating. Very disappointing.

Depending how much you want to spend, Nudie do vegan snacks. I’ve just bought the Big Night In snack box for under £20, for 16 items. There’s 20% off on the website too.

MrsMoggy · 11/12/2022 14:07

Nomo Reindeers or selection boxes (most supermarkets)
Aldi jalapeño chilli jam
Tesco maple bacon pretzels
Terrys plant based vegan orange bar (sainsburys)
Aldi caramelised biscuit truffles
Aldi Asti spumante
Asda salt and pepper crackers
Tesco crisps in Christmas flavours (pretty much all suitable for vegans)

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 11/12/2022 14:23

Moser Roth Vegan Blonde Cocoa Bar, Sea Salt an Chilli dark are also accidentally vegan.
Oreos are accidentally vegan.

I think you’ve been given loads of good suggestions. I bought some nice bits in M&S yesterday. I agree it’s frustrating having to scrutinise labels, and a lot of things which you think should be vegan, like black pepper cashew nuts 😬 are ruined by added milk. If you’ve got an idea of what you’d like, why don’t you have a look on the supermarket websites and then select vegan under dietary. You might be surprised, and it will make your supermarket trip a bit quicker.

@cleome I’m sending DH on a trip to Waitrose to see if he can pick up some Fauxmagery. Interested to see what it’s like 😀

Ethelfromnumber73 · 11/12/2022 18:48

Candy Kittens, Montezuma's dark chocolate, and vegan pannetone have all been available at my local waitrose and are fabulous. The waitrose vegan mince pies are also great, and quite a lot of Xmas puddings are vegan. Posh balsamic and olive oil also a good idea, tea pigs teas are nice (they have some special Christmas ones at the moment). There's an Italian bread brand called Crosta Mollica which does really amazing crackers and breadsticks and some of the posh crisps are also vegan- Tyrells do a rosemary and thyme flavour which is amazing

I got some yesterday, the fig one and I hate it. I was so disappointed. I am relieved it's saved me from the £££ I was going to spend on their website though.

I don't like booja much and would much rather receive nomo in a hamper, either bars (caramel or the blue one, I think it's sea salted) or the caramel drops are good.
Waitrose have a vegan Yule log, not sure what it's like because I've bought it but not tried it yet.
If you're going for chilled as well Asda do a nice cheese board box for £4.
M&S plant kitchen cookies from the bakery are great, but depends how close before giving you are buying them. They do have a lot though.
I'm surprised you couldn't find more at Tesco, were you in the free from aisle? Mine has quite a bit. Bit of a random one, but Tesco free from onion ring crisps are amazing. No other onion rings can compare to them.
