My son absolutely loves chocolate. I'm going to put him a hamper of chocolate themed gifts together and I would love to include something really different, ideally a box of really unusual flavoured chocolates or failing that bars of unusual flavour chocolate.

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Some really lovely (and unusual) options here.

If you want something more high street, Lidl always have a good selection of Ritter Sports and the square packs look quite nice piled up in a gift/hamper arrangement.

Charlotte Flower chocolates... unique flavours..

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 09/12/2022 12:06

I bought my son some things from Hotel Chocolat

Fivemoreminutes1 · 09/12/2022 12:51

Hotel Chocolat have a a few unusual flavours amongst their Selectors, such as cinnamon bun, salted espresso martini and banana smoothie.
Kernow have a good choice, including toasted tea cake and creme brûlée
Kakao have a custard cream chocolate bar
Also have a look at Choc Affair

I had a box of chocolates from these before, they were lovely and look beautiful. Stumbled across them at a local craft market and he was giving out free samples. I ended up buying a box.

Try the ‘build your own ballotin’ option from Leonidas:

I don’t know how old your son is, but what about ordering some Japanese kitkats? They come in lots of weird and wonderful flavours

Spanielsarepainless · 09/12/2022 17:13

I won Marmite chocolates in a raffle. Tasted disgusting and certainly 'unusual'!

Was also going to say Japanese kitkats. My son didn't actually like them but his friends did and he had a great time sharing them out.

Haggis spice chocolate?

It's probably not as disgusting as it sounds - lots of nutmeg and pepper, no offal!

My specialist subject... a few ideas...

You should check out the international section of the supermarket or different foreign/international shops.

Milka and Australian flavours in B&M

Montezumas have some quirky flavours

Cadbury mystery bars, or the popping candy jellybean bar

You can get chocolate roulette where one is a chilli chocolate

TKmaxx usually have some less common/international brands and fun shapes and designs

Old fashioned pick and mix - Wilko has a less retro one

Drumsticks chocolate

Terry's chocolate orange popping candy

Tiger stores sometimes have random chocolate treats

Hotel chocolat as mentioned

Blonde chocolate / Caramilk

Lidl - they have a nice one with cornflakes and a white chocolate coconut one (own brand stuff)

Lindt - their stores and large Sainsbury's have large pick and mix with tons of flavours, particularly their standalone stores

Hope that helps!

i really love montezuma's orange and geranium chocolate, which is called "happy hippy.

another great combination is chilli and lime

freckles20 · 10/12/2022 01:28

So many brilliant suggestions! Thank you all so much. I'm going to take a look at them all now Smile

I really rate Montezuma's, the quality is excellent. I want to try happy hippie and I love the Sea Dog one (salt and lime dark choc).

My MIL buys Chococo chocolates, there are loads of odd flavours (usually palatable) like wasabi, black garlic, gin and olive oil.

Noideaatall · 10/12/2022 02:13

Prestat or Rococo have some unusual flavours too.

ChequerboardCharlie · 10/12/2022 06:13

No-one has mentioned zotter! They are definitely the best. Some of the flavours are wild but they all taste amazing. My favourite used to be tomato ketchup and bacon!

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 10/12/2022 07:36

https://quirkychocolate.com/ have some lovely unusual Scottish-themed flavours (not sure about irn bru flavour myself, tunnock’s caramel wafer-inspired is more my cup of tea!). They’ve got beautiful wrappers too. And they’re fair trade.

AwkwardSquad · 10/12/2022 07:55

I second Zotter. Unusual, delicious and lovely packaging - and ethical!

MissyB1 · 10/12/2022 08:02

Has anyone ever tried violet or rose creams? Im always tempted but not sure which ones to try.

ErinAndTonic · 10/12/2022 19:04

B&M also have a lovely biscoff filled bar at the moment!

Hotel Chocolat do nice ones.

LucaLoo · 11/12/2022 14:19

I second Montezuma's orange and geranium and their black forest variety
