Present for DH - lego?

What can my teens get my impossible to buy for DH? He has in the past enjoyed the odd lego, but the sets I see now are either boring, expensive or too elaborate! Something with a degree of difficulty but not huge and castle-y. Failing lego, does anyone have any other ideas? (under £30!)

Lego bonsai or flowers set? Not sure if you can get them under £30 though...

JuneOsborne · 09/12/2022 07:25

The Lego trainer is cool. Not under £30 though.

JuneOsborne · 09/12/2022 07:26

If you want alternative ideas, tell us how he spends his weekends.

girlmom21 · 09/12/2022 07:30

If you want them to get him something to do, what about a 3D puzzle?

Fivemoreminutes1 · 09/12/2022 07:38

If he enjoys model making, then look at Piececool models. My DH enjoyed this one but he said it was very tricky. He’s also done a few of the Robotime wooden 3D models.

The Lego architecture sets are lovely

If he enjoyed HarryPotter, may be one of the smaller sets for that, eg Hedwig?
But seriously I would get your teens to choose. It’s an important life skill and lesson in thinking about others.

D's has just done the London one. They are quite small, but look beautiful when made. He's asked for the Paris one for Christmas

Boring !! There's some fantastic Lego sets under £30 out there. Have a look at the Creator 3 in 1 theme.
A hugely popular one is the dinosaur (so popular it has been available for a few years now rather than being retired).
There's a mini robot type thing that's only £9. The narwal set is adorable. There's cars and vehicles.
For £30 you could get a couple of the small Creator sets that are £9 and a small Classic set (there's a cute one that gives you the idea of making monsters but you can make anything you want) for £9.
That would be hours of happy building.

Needmorelego · 09/12/2022 07:57

Or this set is currently £22.50 in Asda.

These are the 3 £9 sets I suggested. It's a dolphin - not a narwal 🙂

I’ve done the lego Hedwig, it’s a great build!

milkysmum · 09/12/2022 08:04

Those sets above look great for kids, but not sure for ops husband?
The architecture sets might look boring to you, not to others, everyone likes different things.

liarliarshortsonfire · 09/12/2022 08:05

My friends dh buys her Lego every year, she loves it

Kayjay2018 · 09/12/2022 08:08

If he already has a stash of Lego I think there is a 'build a day' type book with different things to build. They were doing it as a 2023 calendar this year for about £14 but I think it's sold out

Needmorelego · 09/12/2022 08:10

@milkysmum I am age 47 and an official AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego).
I love the small Creator and Classic sets. They're my favourite themes.
Adults who are into Lego don't just want display sets - some like colours and being creative.
Obviously I don't know the OPs husband and what his Lego tastes are but I am just giving ideas.
Some people seem to have forgotten how Lego is meant to work. Build, create, have fun, be imaginative....
Those architecture city sets are yawn 🙂

Needmorelego · 09/12/2022 08:12

@milkysmum and I said "Boring !" because that's what the OP said.
(But I stand by what I said about the Architecture sets 😂)

Marblessolveeverything · 09/12/2022 09:10

The one that is on the list here (its not 30 though) is the Lego chess set.

SquirrelFan · 09/12/2022 12:30

Wow what a response, thanks all! I should have said, he requested the bonsai and loves it a year or so ago. He likes to have it in the background of his zoom calls! Was looking for something equally sophisticated - I thought the London skyline would fit the bill nicely he's said no, and has now suggested the Vespa. It's way out of the price range, but if the kids go in on it, they can manage.

The Harry Potter castle is this week's Lidl middle aisle I think. £19.99.

luckylavender · 09/12/2022 13:21

Here - not the castle & of course may not be his thing
