How do you store your Christmas tree baubles?

Every year I think I must come up with a better storage than zillions of shortbread and quality street tins. How do you store yours?

not exciting, ours just go in a big plastic box.

caramac04 · 06/12/2022 19:42

I have glued plastic disposable cups in a cardboard box. Tinsel on top. Works a treat.

livingthegoodlife · 06/12/2022 19:43

Really useful box with bauble trays in. Fabulous. Plenty of space under for bigger things too.

glamourousindierockandroll · 06/12/2022 19:47

I just use the boxes they came in inside larger boxes saved from big christmas presents. The nice, breakable ones get wrapped in newspaper or leftover bubble wrap.

Mybrotherssistersmothersdaughter · 06/12/2022 19:51

I use a box with inserts for baubles

Something like this (mine not in stock anymore - I bought it 10 years ago!)

The glass ones are in bubble wrap/tissue paper in sectioned cardboard trays, which are bubble wrapped and put into larger cardboard boxes.
Shatterproof ones are in a big plastic box.

Delicate ones are wrapped in tissue paper/newspaper/bubble wrap and packed into plastic crates. Cheapy ones are packed straight into a crate without any wrapping. Fancier/more expensive ones (georg jensen collectibles and such) are kept in their boxes, in a crate. I also have a couple of those plastic sets of drawers for lights, candles, cards & ribbon etc.

Got a beautiful tree in Studio online last year and they had red canvas boxes with layered inserts you put together inside to stack the baubles for about £4.99. Also bought their Christmas tree storage bag that I’m sure was around the same price. Was delighted with both.

These are good and very cheap.

Randominternetbitch · 06/12/2022 20:02

IKEA ziplock bags then into an old printer box. 20 years and the bags and box are still going strong 😂

MoonahSton · 06/12/2022 20:06

They get shoved inside old quality street/roses tins from years gone by and then they go in big plastic boxes

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 06/12/2022 20:23

Great ideas, thank you!

Various shoe boxes of colour coordinated baubles, others with wooden stuff or lights, the whole lot in one of those large ikea shopping bags. Lights wrapped around stiff card. I can't take any credit for it-one if my then teens took pity and organised it after Xmas one year.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 06/12/2022 22:22

I have 2 canvas bauble boxs and one of the plastic homebargins ones. I also store in large plastic cake containers and sometimes the original boxs they come in. I use to be careful putting them all in individually but the last couple of years I don’t always use the dividers on the cheap basic ones and just get as many as I can in and cushion with tinsel.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/12/2022 22:30

Just in a big cardboard box in layers, with some of those moulded papier mache things from fruit at the supermarket separating the layers.

Then tinsel etc on top, then another layer of the papier mache, then lights coiled on top, then tape the box closed with masking tape.

I asked our local greengrocer to let me have a couple of the flat boxes that apples etc come in with the moulded trays like the ones @TheYearOfSmallThings uses. Cost nothing and works really well.

ShakeYourFeathers · 06/12/2022 23:07

An old cardboard box. Think it came from a 1970s kettle. Anyway they're all wrapped in kitchen roll, some of which is the same age as the box and placed in the box.

OMG £259! Reduced from £349. On wheels. But baubles are not even heavy. I don’t think I could ever be so rich that I’d consider that reasonable.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/12/2022 09:30

In a carrier bag in the Christmas tree box. They aren’t breakable ones.

BittenontheBum · 07/12/2022 10:10

Exactly the same as you 🤣 and my mum before me. In fact some of her baubles (very old and fragile) are still wrapped in the original tissue paper from way back when 💜
You can buy canvas boxes with dividers but in my head the take up as much room 🤷🏻‍♀️

ILoveWillSmith · 07/12/2022 14:50

Naked Wines boxes - the bottle dividers keep everything neat and they're really strong.
That's the only reason I buy wine in bulk - honestly! Xmas Wink

Ponderingwindow · 07/12/2022 15:04

Every system I tried couldn’t handle size variation well and was just too fiddly.

then I solved it.

I got foam pouches, the kind you can buy to pack glasses or dishes for moving. I bought 100s in bulk on Amazon. I think the size I got are designed for mugs or small plates. One bauble per sleeve. Pop it in and then just drop them into a big plastic storage tote. They don’t fall out because there is enough friction and they are nicely padded. You can reuse the pouches year after year. So it’s a one time Investment, but they last ages and you just have to replace the occasional one that tears. After about 5 years I had to buy another small pack to replenish my supply and account for new baubles.

I have dedicated bauble boxes, big cardboard storage ones. I've made inserts that hold them in place with about four layers of baubles per box. There's some bubblewrap for the more fragile ones but even the ones without, I haven't had a single one broken. I have a few boxes like this, it takes some time to make the internal supports but once it's done, it's done. The spaces around the edges can be moved to allow a bit more room for an awkwardly shaped bauble, or a section folded back for a long droplet shaped one.

I've got quite a big collection of tree decorations Blush
