What have you/would you buy for the runner in your life?

I was thinking some blister resistant socks and there are some good Strava related gifts on Etsy but wondered if anyone had any other unique ideas?

I have a woolly hat with built in Bluetooth headphones and a light in the front 🤣. Also a headband with Bluetooth headphones for the summer

I LOVE getting good running socks. A light (head torch or one that goes around your body) for running in the dark would be useful, or a base layer, or something reflective if they run in the dark. I need to wear a head buff in the cold as my ears get so cold, so that's good (I got one a few years ago from Sweaty Betty that came with a slit to pull a pony tail through -genius!).

I can’t run in a hat no matter how cold it is!
headtorch or armband lights
arm warmer sleeves
gloves
buffs / head band
good socks
medal hanger (not my cup of tea personally but lots of folk like them)
shiny things from proviz
parkrun barcode wristband if they do parkrun
theres companies make posters of race maps and times if they’ve done something they’re particularly proud of e.g. first marathon

'The Runner's Cookbook' by Anita Bean

www.wiggle.co.uk try this website my husband does triathlons and has loads of running stuff from here. They do a running gels kit think it’s only £10 high5s are a good brand so is SIS.

Found the gels kits … www.wiggle.co.uk/high5-run-pack-1

Proper running socks - try Stance f you think they's like gaudy. All the major brands are good.

Sleeves (tubes for the arms, enormously helpful in spring/autumn when you don't want to rug up completely but it's too cold to have bare arms from the off).

Books about running - try anything by Vassos Alexander

Voucher for an event entry (doesn't have to be a serious race - look for things like colour runs)

Entry into a mileage challenge, like a virtual LEJOG (finishers gear medal/T shirt). I've done there with a Company called End To End, others are available

Look on the RunThrough page, both for local race passes (might be over budget, but if you have a number of events near you it's the best VFM way to enter, and they can think of you year round. They also do kit these days, which is good, and last time I looked they had a very competitively priced massage gun

Or you could just be evil and get then a foam roller

emmathedilemma · 03/12/2022 16:11

Ooh yes bath salts are good (unless they don’t have a bath!). TKMaxx and B&M usually have them at a fraction of the price of Boots.

Waterproof socks

CornishGem1975 · 03/12/2022 22:16

Thanks - some great ideas here. DH is training for a marathon right now (not his first, but first in a while) so wanted to get him some useful gifts. Will explore these tomorrow.

I got the medal hanger for DH on the condition that it went up in the study. He has so many from different races and they were getting mislaid. It’s not my kind of thing at all but I recognise that it is his. So study it is.

Riverlee · 03/12/2022 22:18

Versus socks are always in my stocking (fun prints and colours, great quality)

Shokz headphones are really great too especially for races when you want music but also to hear the crowds

Sorry to derail but what makes them better than standard earphones @ShinyHatStand? I've seen them a few times and have always wondered. Smile

emmathedilemma · 04/12/2022 07:11

@gawditswindy you can still hear background noise with bone conducting headphones. They’re also allowed in some road races that have a ban on in ear and over ear headphones.

ShinyHatStand · 04/12/2022 11:07

@gawditswindy exactly what @emmathedilemma says
Many events don't allow standard headphones as they want you to be able to hear marshals. And I feel much safer being able to hear traffic on long runs. And I find the more comfy.
