What times do you have your Christmas lights on from and to?

Sorry if it’s already been asked.

Meaning specifically for the outdoor lights but feel free to comment for indoor lights if that’s different.

Our indoor and outdoor tree lights are on timer to come on at 5pm and go off at 3am. One of my favourite things about December is that my cold cycle home from work at least offers the opportunity to look at everyone’s lights, and if we’re walking home from the pub late at night we get to do the same. So I feel like I should chip in and contribute my own nice light show for others.

On ~4pm, off ~10pm then for an hour 7am-8am.
We adjust times a bit as sunset changes.

I have window lights not outdoor outdoor lights. These and the trees are on all day (work at home with people inside). Little pretty battery operated ones from teatime to bedtime.

Sadly we've decided not to have any outdoor lights this year because I can't justify the extra electricity cost. In previous years we had them on as soon as it got dark until bedtime - about 10pm. And all night on Xmas eve so Santa knows where we are.

We have battery lights on our inside tree though, the fine wire kind and we put them on when I get home from work at about 5 until bed time, again between 10/11pm. And lots of candles in windows.

Our lights are on a 6 hour timer, so they are on 4-10pm.

@pechecreme we just have a single set of LEDs for outside, so they are not that expensive to run at all and according to my calculations cost less than 1 pence for each evening they are on.

We have some in the window that are battery operated, I turn them on when it gets dark, and off about 11-12ish

Tree lights on all day if toddlers not at nursery, the battery garland thing gets turned on in the evening

We don’t have outdoor lights. I don’t know anyone who does. We turn indoor lights on in the evening -say between 4-9pm- , or all day on Christmas Day.

From around 4pm until we go to bed.
When we have guests over, (usually they've come to visit us for Christmas time) we put them on, it doesn't matter what time of the day it is.
Christmas day, all day!

Mine are on a timer for 4 - 11pm at the moment. I'll probably set it a little earlier as it gets darker earlier.

4-11 for outdoor lights. Tree is on from when the kids wake up until the last person to go to bed.

Mine have a timer - not sure if it's six or eight hours- so on at 4 off at 10 or midnight.

Thanks all for responding. We will be using a timer too, so seems like 4-10pm is the 'norm' to have them on.

😂😂😂 You don't know anyone who has outdoor Christmas lights?! All the LOLz!

We have a load of them. Five fir trees outside - 7 to 10 feet tall - and we have lights all over them (polar white/soft white:) 300 on each one. (All electric.) Also, sets of colour and soft white battery lights on around 10 bushes around the garden - front and side . (Sets of 50, 70, and 100.)

We have lights on the indoor 7 foot Christmas tree (of course,) and a set of battery lights in every front and side window. (Mixture of colour, white, and blue...) Also, we have a set of electric lights on the front of the house (50 - large bulbs, soft pastel colours.) And, a set of 25 red battery lights in the front window with a Christmas scene ornament all lit up in red, gold, and green.

We have them on from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. 4 hours. Would have them on longer, but we have so many that the electric bill would be much higher if we had the electric ones on for say, 8 hours. Also, the batteries (on the battery ones) would wear out quicker. 4 hours is cool though, as most people are in/home from school/college/work/the shops by 7.30pm. 8.00pm at the latest.

As an aside, if you have relatively new LED lights, they really don’t cost a fortune to operate anymore - they’re nothing like the power hungry Christmas lights of old which used to raise the ambient temperature of your garden by about a degree if you had a tree full of them. Ours literally add pennies a day to the bill.

Outdoor lights vary.

Wreath on the door: 3.30pm - 9.30pm
Lights on a tree in the front garden: 7am - midnight

Plus, we have lights on the inside that you can see from the outside, e.g. a tree just inside the front door or lights on the windows. They are on 7am - 11pm.

We have outdoor battery lights on three trees in the garden, they automatically go off after 6 hrs, then back in again 18 hrs later. Currently they are on 4.30 - 10.30. We use rechargeable batteries in them. Indoor lights go off around 10pm.

I only have a few outside, just on a few trees. 4-about 11 I think (timer). They're not out yet. Wreath (manual) about the same, but sometimes the wreath is on all night as I forget to switch it off.

tree not up yet, but interior light from when it gets dark enough until bedtime. So quite often they're on straight after the school run & stay on until bedtime.

just wish i could click my fingers & they'd all be up!!

Yes, someone at work told me that they are using battery operated lights to save on the electricity, I did try and say that I’m sure LED would be as cheaper if not cheaper.

I have lights all year round in my kitchen and around the fire place. The tree lights and extra lights are on from getting up and going to bed.
