Worried DD will be bored

DD is almost 13 and its just me and her on Xmas morning.
I've got her some lovely presents, but as she doesn't "play" with anything its mostly clothes, books, toiletries and bits and bobs. No toys as such.
I'm a bit worried she will open her presents and then have nothing special to "do" until the rest of the family arrive.

Any ideas on what you are getting your 12 / 13 year olds that will amuse them in the morning?

She doesn't play consoles and I don't think she will want to play a board game just the two of us.

Could you prep, cook, bake together?

Or go for a walk just the 2 of you?

Or watch a movie together?

Either way, I think she'll enjoy quality time with her Mum. Unless you don't really get on?

Cosy up with a nice movie and some nice breakfast treats. I don’t know how old you are but the 90s are really cool for young people at the moment. If you’re a 90s kid do you have any favourite romcoms or comedies you can share with her that you used to love?

Film while eating chocolate and hot chocolate? Walk? You close to a beach loads here do Christmas morning dips

Velvian · 30/11/2022 19:38

Chocolates, films and new PJs and blankets. That would be my (& DD's) ideal ideal Xmas

Some good ideas, thanks!

I was thinking about making a special breakfast together then watching a film, I am a 90s baby and she loved watching Practical Magic with me so thats an idea. I suggested 10 Things I Hate About You but she was doubtful.

Last year we watched Top Gear together...I just really want her to have a special morning

Mine is a bit older but we tend to mooch a bit in jammies. Then have a nice shower with the new smellies and by the time that's been done at a leisurely pace the morning is gone!

MisgenderedSwan · 30/11/2022 20:24

I would have a nice breakfast then maybe a pamper - face masks, nails and foot mask while watching a film? Get ready for the day together?

KeeefBurtain · 30/11/2022 20:38

Could you buy a Lego set from ‘Santa’ to the 2 of you to build together?

Puddywoodycat · 30/11/2022 21:25

Op ,take the pressure off.
It's a holiday, presents...assume you decorate, have tasty snacks.... pretty lighting...

Relax....have selection choice of films.... music...

Don't put pressure on.

If she likes baths maybe get bath bombs etx.

DD is a single child and it's the 5th year without toys. She was also never one for craft kits or similar. And all family is in another country.

We have a lovely long breakfast. If the weather is good we go for a walk. She is on the phone chatting with her friends. She helps with food. when asked.

I never thought she would be bored. She never. complained about "I have nothing to do".

Don't overthink it.

I didn't have things to "do" by that age, I just socialised with the family and had a look at my bits and bobs. I wouldn't worry about it.
