Christmas Cards

Christmas Cards-are you writing as many as usual or cutting down this year?

I'm going to write and send cards to my relatives (@ 25 cards) and to elderly friends of the family/neighbours that I know will appreciate receiving them.

I'm not going to write to people that I see in person regularly as it seems a bit daft to say Happy Christmas then hand them a card that says Happy Christmas IYSWIM.

It was decided at work a few years ago that we wouldn't send cards to each other but put ten pounds in a pot and then every year a member of staff chooses a charity and the money is donated to that. I think this is a great idea. This usually raises around £200.00.

I'm way past the primary school years when the kids wrote out at least 40 cards each to distribute to children and staff😮

What will you be doing?

PS Can't believe it's the 1st tomorrow!

I will send Seasonal Greetings cards to those who will appreciate them. Also to our lovely neighbours.

We can afford the postage but it will be making many people cut down.

I agree that postage cards will be a factor in whether people send cards or not.

I only have 2 people that I need to post to but I'll be giving them to everyone I think would like them as they've got photos of my little one on :)

I have had since lockdown off as my oldest moved on from primary school but now my younger DS in school I have 30 cards to write out again... I hate cards.

I would never do it for anything other than the kids school

A cheat's way to avoid having to coerce your small person into signing their own vast list of Christmas cards/ thank-you notes etc...who will ever know it was YOU zipping through them instead?! 😉

Pretty pricey, mind you.

OP, in answer to your question: prohibitive postage costs means I've had to reduce drastically the number of handwritten cards I'm sending.

Limiting them to elderly beloved friends and relatives this year, as their amount of living peer group sadly lessens. And I know they treasure any proper keepsake cards to display and newsy updates.

Plus pop-up 3d cards to young children, as they get excitement from envelopes arriving just for them. Also kept by their parents for bringing out each year, and saves me buying a gift too!

The few I'm giving in person to those whom I see fairly regularly are seeded paper/eco-friendly, so at least plantable/compostable in the New Year!

I quite like the ritual of writing them to appreciative friends/fam, and never bothered with people who opened-glanced-immediately chucked them anyway. Too wasteful!

I love that stamp Thalia-I wonder if I could get one done in my own name 😆

Your card giving sounds very thoughtful.
