What goes on your tree?

Other than baubles and lights?

Beads? Tinsel? Anything or nothing?

I'm old enough to have done both in the past but now not sure

Everything - tinsel, baubles, things the kids have made, special tags from years gone by, glittery snowflakes , pine cones, lights, lametta- the more the merrier 🎄

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 24/11/2022 15:31

Lots of lights - visible from space type thing. Then my decorations are all Disney and the topper is a mickey hat.

carefulcalculator · 24/11/2022 15:34

We make our tree each year so it is only paper.

I used to love that metallic strand stuff, but it did look pretty naff.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 24/11/2022 15:35

Lights, beads, baubles, stars, snowflakes, pine cones, berries, random hanging decorations we've made, collected, been given over the years, hanging chocolates (although never for long!), mini crackers, plastic candy canes. Last year was the first year we didn't put tinsel on the tree and I preferred it.

Angelofthenortheast · 24/11/2022 15:52

Shit loads of lametta. I love the 1950s cosy Christmas look!

chineapplepunks · 24/11/2022 15:55

We do tinsel but that's DW choice not mine. I'd rather just have a shit load of baubles.

Autumnalleavestime · 24/11/2022 15:55

Last couple of years I did bows, red satin bows with gold baubles. This year I’m thinking of keeping it even simpler. With just the warm white lights and gold baubles, might get some bronze/copper ones also.

Same here. We also collect new ornaments during the year so it's gets busier every year. One day we won't be able to see the tree!

YuliaJollyberry · 24/11/2022 16:14

It varies every year, crafting or using decorations we’ve collected. I like them quite sparse nowadays though, besides the fairy on the biggest tree who’s a little over the top in outfit choice. Sometimes just twinkle lights, other times only tinsel, we’ve had pom poms, paint dipped pine cones, cardboard ombré stars and paper snowflakes we’ve cut out. This year it’s crumpled brown packaging paper chains we’ll start making the beginning of December. We do have one tree with the sentimental stuff, childhood crafts, crackers, chocolate decorations and everything else on.

Alexandernevermind · 24/11/2022 16:14

Wedgwood decorations on the tree that doesn't get knocked. I treat myself to a couple each year as they are about £35/£40 each.

NCFT0922 · 24/11/2022 16:17

Baubles & tinsel.. the kitchen one has berries and pine cones on it, we have real ones in the snug and the hallway which are baubles & lights and the one in the lounge is the same as the kitchen one.
Absolutely hate tinsel and I’ve never liked beads on trees.

AriettyHomily · 24/11/2022 16:18

Everything. There is no matching, coloured lights, ornaments we've collected over the years, random shit the kids have made. I love it.

Babdoc · 24/11/2022 16:24

Carved olive wood decorations that DH’s aunt bought in Bethlehem, when she visited Israel with the Archbishop of York. Similar from Oberammergau when I went to the Passion play. Handmade decorations from my church Sunday school. A Russian doll version of Santa, which DD bought in St Petersburg. Plus various baubles and tinsel that DH and I acquired over the decades. Topped by an ornate gold foil star carefully preserved from the 1970s, and brought out each year. Only the lights are relatively new - the old set died after 25 years!
It may be a glorious mixture, rather than stylish minimalism, but it all brings back memories of my lovely late DH and Christmases past.

whoruntheworldgirls · 24/11/2022 16:31

Tinsel first shoved quite far back, then lights so it catches on the tinsel and sparkles, then red and gold baubles/wooden decorations. Small tree has purple and silver baubles only.

zen1 · 24/11/2022 16:34

Everything except tinsel as tree is made of silver tinsel and more tinsel would look OTT. I cram it full of everything, including my mum and grandmothers vintage decorations from 1930s - 1970s. Lots of modern baubles and tree ornaments too. I go for a 70s aesthetic Grin

Bouledeneige · 24/11/2022 16:36

We just do loads of lights and baubles. Every year when we got to get the tree DD and I choose an additional bauble each ( in the last DS did too). So all our baubles have sentimental meaning to us and some make us laugh. We have a Llama on the top of the tree for no known reason. We love doing the tree and all our decorations round the house.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/11/2022 16:37

Only glass baubles and lights on the main tree. The kids have one each in their rooms and there is one in the playroom for all the homemade, plastic and wooden decorations and miles of tinsel.

MintJulia · 24/11/2022 16:46

warm white lights
candy canes
strings of red and gold beads
Christmas decorations that I have collected over the years
A gauzy-skirted fairy for the top

I also have non-flashing icicle lights outside on the gables

I wind holly, ivy and Christmas ribbons up the bannisters, and have a wreath on the front door. 😊

barskits · 24/11/2022 17:48

What goes on our tree? What doesn't?!!

lipstickwoman · 24/11/2022 18:36

Some of your trees sound amazing!

Interesting how many are a joyful mish mash and not too co ordinated, a look im not keen on

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/11/2022 18:39

Lametta, or icicles, as we call them in this house. They shiver and catch the light. No tinsel or beads.

Otherwise the old, multicoloured decorations, some of which date back many decades. We don’t do ‘tasteful’, colour-coordinated trees here!

FearofQueefing · 24/11/2022 21:47

Everything!

I have no time for carefully curated trees. Christmas is about togetherness, nostalgia and fun - so all the homemade kiddy deccies from yester-year sit proudly alongside shop bought stuff. There is no colour scheme, no theme. Anything goes.

I actually get so many positive comments about my tree - it gets wows from everyone who visits. It's a chaotically joyful tree.

mondaytosunday · 24/11/2022 22:09

Our baubles range from traditional round solid colour glass ones to those old fashioned concave ones to fruit and veg and clowns and other figures. Straw Ángels from Mexico, yarn dolls from Peru, blown glass chilli from Santa Fe, blue delft ceramic windmill from Holland, lots of wooden/paper maché/fabric figures, a miniature deck chair even! Lights are twinkling white and steady red, an Angel on top and lametta type tinsel all over to bring it all together.
The wreath and table setting and mantle decorations are more themed- this year going for Nordic green and white as I have set if those white ceramic tea lights in the shape of houses that line the canals in Holland and Norway. My Christmas china is mistletoe from Sophie Conran - also green and white!

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 24/11/2022 22:38

We just have lights and ornaments of different shapes, textures and shades of white and clear, with an occasional blue. I wanted my tree to look like a frosted Snow Queen tree and I really love it. I have lots of nisse and tomte and lots of white/silver/glass ornaments around the room as well.

My parents tree is a total riot of colour and I absolutely love it, reminds me of my childhood so I think I get the best of both worlds!

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 24/11/2022 22:49

Tinsel and mismatched bauble... our tree is as tacky as can be, that is the perfect Christmas for us though... although DS put gold tinsel on the tree this year just to annoy me ( I hate gold)
