Secret Santa for under £5!

Literally what the title says - I'm a member of a group of women aged roughly 25-65, and we're doing a secret Santa. It's our first one so I can't draw on previous years' ideas unfortunately!
Budget is £5 and I'm honestly stuck. I'd like to get a nice usable gift that will appeal to most, and doesn't feel too much like I've spent £5 for the sake of it.
I would welcome any ideas 😅

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! Love the ideas of reusable shopping bags and beeswax wraps, I think those are fab and easily regiftable if they don't suit the recipient!

Some of these are lovely:

@TottersBlankly I assume that's why the OP is asking for suggestions - so she doesn't get a 'joke' present (the OP never said it should be that type of gift) or something pointless.
For £5 I could get a £2.50 novel from The Works, a £1 nice fragrance shower gel (like Nivea or similar) a £1 choc Santa and put it in a 50p gift bag and I personally would consider that a nice Christmas treat and not 'rubbish' or 'joke'.

Slimjimtobe · 24/11/2022 13:07

A nice Christmas tree bauble ?
plant ? (Christmas cactus)

DeedlessIndeed · 24/11/2022 13:14

A face mask - simple or a sensitive skin friendly one. (£2)
A pot of bulbs (hyacinth or daffodil) - perhaps with a charity shop pot cover? (£2 ikea)
A £1 chocolate bar.

BasiliskStare · 24/11/2022 14:27

I would avoid any food , toiletries as you don't really know what people like - so eg I think I am one who is fairly unusual - I don't like chocolate and some bath salts / creams / soaps bring me out in a rash. Sound lovely don't I :) I would eat cheese all the live day long - but some don't.

I think a nice foldable up shopping bag is a great idea or ( not sure if possible for £5 ) a nicer fold up umbrella than the normal black ones

I am a pragmatic person & I would be very happy if someone bought me a book or two of stamps - so I always have one available. I realise this is not glamorous but I would love that. & if you wrapped them in a bit of nice paper it could look ok and I doubt anyone doesn't need a stamp occasionally. Just make sure they are the new ones if you do not think that idea is too bad to burn

All best

@hulahoopqueen maybe a way of doing it is everyone puts their name on a piece of paper and they could write a couple of sentences about things the enjoy/like and if there is something they wouldn't want.
So for example :
"I enjoy things for my garden, fancy coffee and I love to read.
Please don't gift me alcohol or any food containing nuts"
That way the gifts are still a nice surprise and be more likely something the reciever will be happy to get.

The best Secret Santa gift I ever received, and one I still use regularly around 15 years on was a lightweight, folding shopping bag, similar to this one. It lives in my handbag and has saved me from having to pay for a carrier so many times!

I think these are a great idea. You can buy them in charity shops for a few pounds.

Just bought this bag for my Mum - thank you!

CountryCatLady · 24/11/2022 18:27

I would do a pamper type set. So get face mask, hand cream, nail file from somewhere like bodycare, mini wine and/or hot chocolate sachet (home bargains do one with marshmallows, think it's about 99p) and maybe a few celebrations or other sweet thing. In a nice gift bag or wrap a small box if you have one spare and sit it up in it.

If you know the person well, I would personalise it a bit, ie do a hair mask or foot mask if they might prefer that to a face mask.

Or for the non beauty type people a adult colouring book and some pencils along with the drink and chocolate option.

I would like something like this.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest too! I'd like that!

PixiePirate · 24/11/2022 19:27

I would like a Cracklewick candle, a Percy Pig mug, a lip/cheek tint, a Christmas tree decoration (Paperchase lobster!), a noodle bowl with chopsticks or a travel mug with a lottery scratch card.

OldWivesTale · 24/11/2022 19:29

A £5 voucher for Costa coffee or Gregs

CherrySocks · 24/11/2022 19:35

Sainsbury's Hydrate Lip Balms 4x4g

Pack of 4, costs exactly £5

ICanHideButICantRun · 24/11/2022 19:43

@Cyclistmumgrandma those bags are great. I've got a couple of them (same patterns) from a bookshop, though they were charging nearly double that.

ramonaquimby · 24/11/2022 19:47

Just get a voucher to your loc coffee shop, Costa or Starbucks. Or a Christmas scratch card

bigboymamaz · 24/11/2022 19:53

Bath salts

Inasec24 · 25/11/2022 20:02

A paperback novel

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 25/11/2022 21:49

The bags are great.
I was shopping with same budget today for a group with wide range of ages and both sexes and a lucky dip so really tricky as no named person.

My contribution is Christmas loo roll and a packet of Percy Pigs wearing Santa hats. 🤷‍♀️
