ancestry.co.uk

If you have amazon prime check there first as their price usually includes p and p with ancestry you normally pay this on top.

I have just had are fund from ancestry, I bought myself a DNA kit as a gift for father's day. It took weeks to deliver and register on their system and then weeks before they said they had been unable to process the sample - the offered another kit for free - I waited for that - sent it off and again it was weeks before it even registered as having arrived (in Ireland) and once again weeks before they emailed to say that once again they had not been able to process the sample and wanted another one sending - I gave up - it has ben so many months - they didn't offer any explanation - the sample was collected correctly - my wife processes samples spit samples in an NHS laboratory and knows what they should look like - they use the same type of kits - anyway - disappointing all round - their email support was never very specific about anything so I didn't rate them based on what happened to me. I might try another company but I have kind of lost interest now.

I've used MyHeritage multiple times for myself and other family members and have found them very good. They have a genealogy tool as well you can use if you are interested in that. I'm sure they have a Black Friday deal on their website ATM.

Definitely use Ancestry.co.uk.

It had the largest database and once you have you results from them you can upload them for free to MyHeritage and other sites (with the exception of 23&me).

You can buy Ancestry.co.uk kits from Amazon as well as direct from ancestry. Sometimes a kit will fail but they send another for free. Lots of tips online for getting a good sample!

As the PP you quoted said - try Amazon.co.uk. It’s £59.99 at the moment.

Sisisimone · 25/11/2022 09:11

My Heritage have a £35 black Friday offer. Free p&p on 2 sets or more. There's 6 of us in the family used them now and have no hesitation in recommending them.

Sisisimone · 25/11/2022 09:42

Also, although Ancestry has a larger customer database it is mostly North American whereas MyHeritage has a larger European customer database. So unless a lot your ancestors emigrated to North America it isn't much of a benefit

Topee · 25/11/2022 21:23

I don’t have many close matches on My Heritage but it will vary from person to person. But if you test with ancestry then yi can upload to My Heritage and get your matches free anyway.

Have you read the risks of doing these dna tests? 😕

I would hate a gift of a DNA kit. Found out a few years ago I had a a half sibling my parents never told me about. Someone I grew up with. Both of us have found the whole thing very difficult to process. Afraid to take a DNA test in case more siblings come out of the woodwork.

This is gonna be a present for my hubby and he's fine with the potential outcome.

Hi. Did you get a kit in the end?

How did it go?

I've been researching my FT.

I've asked my mum to take a test. We are trying to find who her grandad was.

She isn't interested. Would it work if I took it?

I only want to use Ancestry, they were £70 recently which I thought was a lot. Now it's £80.

I'm sure I've seen them for £50.

Also this mans family might obviously might not even have an account so if will be a waste.

@amieloue , theres a lot of advice on this thread already about the advantages of Ancestry v My Heritage. As to whether youll be able to identify your great grandfather the answer is 'maybe. Pop along to the genealogy threads:
