Need to give family present ideas for me at under £20, suggestions needed please.

DH and I hoped that this year we and his and my family might rein in our Christmas present buying. Or ideally only buy for the younger family remembers (all under 25).

We all have everything that we need and in the past people have spent hundreds of pounds on each other. It is very kind of them but sometimes the things aren't ideal (concert tickets for a time DH can't get off work, beautiful makeup sets of strange colours, paintings that are not what we would have chosen, perfume which I can't wear).

It all feels like an enormous waste of huge sums of money. We suggested a few options- a budget, secret Santa etc.. but it didn't go down well.

To be fair most of them have kindly said we shouldn't feel we need to buy expensive gifts.

I'd love to give them some ideas as to what I'd like. Everyone is asking for 'a list' and after the failed suggestion that I made I would really prefer to make sure my list consists of things sensibly priced at under £20.

I'd like to avoid asking for gift vouchers as it leaves the door wide open to them to give me a large value in vouchers.

I love food, rum, crafting, books, walking outdoors (I also work outdoors), animals, outdoor swimming, adventures, flowers.

I have just had a new kitchen and so am enjoying cooking and need help getting it organised.

I don't like heavily perfumed toiletries, have sensitive skin and am allergic to wool.

Any help would be wonderful.

Recipe books on a particular theme or cuisine
Diary
Water bottle/travel coffee cup
Nail polish if you wear it (I really rate Barry M, which is a cheaper brand)
Bamboo socks (so soft!)
Identification guide (flowers/trees/birds/insects...)
A houseplant

Brilliant ideas thank you- especially recipe books and ID guides!

'The Way Back Almanac'
by Melinda Salisbury
was a big hit with a crafty, artistic friend this year...next year's looks equally interesting.

If you can stretch to £25, maybe a combined gift for you and DH, I like this idea: a virtual cooking class from a refugee or migrant chef. 25+ cuisines to choose from.

Are you allergic to alpaca OP? If not then what about a lovely pair of alpaca walking socks?

Sealskinz gloves and/or socks
theres some good deals at the moment on a dry bag for swimming
a microfibre towel
Bit boring but a label maker and jars, shelf stackers for your cupboards

CakeCrumbs44 · 23/11/2022 08:43

I'm sure you already have some of these things but...

For outdoor swimming: a dry robe, a dry bag, wetsuit shoes, microfibre towel or hair wrap, waterproof gloves

For walking: Good walking socks, insulated drinks bottle, a good backpack, gloves, thermal base layers

Craft: needle felting set to make a Christmas decoration or item, cross stitch kit, paint by numbers

Other ideas: a nice vase for flowers, cut glasses for rum, a bottle of rum or other drink

Book stand for recipe book
thermos flask/food flask
good quality olive oil
lip balm, something better than you might buy yourself. I like the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour but I’ve just ordered Sol de Janeiro Brazilian kiss, to try

Thighdentitycrisis · 23/11/2022 08:53

you can never have enough hand cream ime

FancyFelix · 23/11/2022 09:11

Yes I love hand cream, recipe book stand is also a good idea.

M&S are doing lovely thermal socks at the moment, great for wearing with walking boots:

Neals yard have big discounts at the moment, their shower gel is a lovely treat for me. There are lots of lovely toiletries/beauty products in a £20 budget that I wouldn't use every day but ration them carefully, so I love using the neals year shower gel occasionally instead of my radox. Lots of gorgeous bath products in that price range too. I particularly like Neom, which I don't buy myself but love to receive as a gift.

Thank you!

These are brilliant ideas.

I'm really grateful.
