What gaming machine?

Sorry if this has been asked before. Looking at buying a whole family present this year, kids (teenage girls aged 16 & 13) are getting older and not asking for anything special. It would set up in the sitting room for the whole family to play on.

What gaming machine would you go for and why?

Xbox or PS?

My thoughts are ... DD already has a switch, so not one of those. Would prefer it not to cost the GDP of a small country, so not fussed about latest model. I'm verging towards an Xbox, but not sure why .... a series S looks affordable, but have concerns that it is digital only (no disk drive)

Any help or opinions for a very confused mum would greatly appreciated.

TIA Smile

It's a hard question to answer really. What kind of games were you looking to play?

Shazzabo · 21/11/2022 16:54

Eldest would like to play Halo (having started watching tv series), youngest still into Minecraft

Thanks. X

Then an Xbox. Halo is an exclusive. The master chief collection will start you off on halo.

Plus halo for a few of them is couch co-op so 2 of you can play on the same machine together.

Xbox is great, if you can stretch to get Xbox game pass you can get access to hundreds of digital games for free

gamerchick · 21/11/2022 16:58

I personally wouldn't touch a digital only though. You can get games cheaper on disk and still have the option to download some.

Thanks. Any thoughts on a S series rather than blowing the budget on x series? Just nervous about the expense if I can't buy secondhand games for it. Also not sure about the monthly pass, and what it includes, is it basic games or include the big name games?

Thanks x

Do they want to play online with their friends? If so they will need the same system as their friends

Shazzabo · 21/11/2022 17:01

Not certain, I will ask the youngest as she is more of the gamer type. Eldest will probably just play with her dad. X

I think it’s worth shelling out for a series x , Game sometimes do some good bundles

NegativeNelly · 21/11/2022 17:10

Yes you get access to new and old ones on there it changes regularly. However I will give you a tip, if you go to CD Keys website they have 22% discount currently on the Xbox Gold pass for 12 months for £38.99. You could buy however many you wanted of those and only activate it when you want to use it. The Gold pass gives you more benefits and includes the game pass , gives access to multiplayer games and you can add accounts so if your kids had a Xbox account each they can share and play the same games if they wanted too. www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live/12-month-xbox-live-gold-membership-xbox-one-360-eu-uk-cd-key

X box has better parental controls

Shazzabo · 22/11/2022 16:22

Going to take a look in Game, but Amazon currently have the series S for £189, and I'm happy to pay for the games pass .... so seriously tempted.

My DH has both. He would recommend the Xbox. He has the pass for £11.99 a month and gets new games every month. He never buys games now as more then enough to play on with games for gold.

Definitely look on cd keys for the game pass and/or cheaper digital games it is so worthwhile all
