Attempting to ‘bling up’ a Christmas wreath. Any crafty people who can advise?

I have two artificial wreaths that have seen better days and am trying to avoid buying new decorations. I was thinking I could add some foliage or something to one of
the wreaths I have but I’m absolutely hopeless at this sort of thing.
I have a eucalyptus tree in the garden so leaves
from that might be nice. Would I need to dry them out first?
I also have a can of gold spray paint so that’s another option.
is it likely to look shit? Any advice gratefully received.

ribbons and gold spray paint could be your answer.

Ribbons - festive colours - reds, greens etc. Don't bother with bows, just loosely knot the ribbon, leaving trailing tails.

Gold spray paint - needs a light touch or can be tooooo much. So spray outside - put wreaths on the ground on newspaper and spray from a good 12-15inches away, moving the spray can over the wreath. Move the can quite quickly - you can always put more on but you can't take it off !

Good luck

Can you glue on some baubles?

Otherwise tinsel makes everything look nice. Possibly with some battery lights?

If you can find some pine cones, spray them gold and attach with thin wire along with some ribbons. If you can find holly leaves they will make it look festive.

I put a battery string of lights through a rather thin natural wreath I made last year, also I found some red bows in a pound shop. And I had some little bauble from a previous year I tied those in too. Possibly it looked shit, but I liked it. I think eucalyptus leaves could look very nice.

Some really good ideas here. Thanks all. I think I’ll have to experiment a bit and see what works.

This is actually very timely as I’m doing a Christmas wreath making workshop on Monday. Really looking forward to it.

Hope the workshop was fun. Did you come home with a lovely wreath?

I make them every year - easy . Your idea to spray eucalyptus gold is fab. They look beautiful plain too. Spray pine cones too. Dried orange slices look nice

There's a lot of dried stuff in gardens/hedgerows at the moment that look great sprayed silver or gold. I normally do allium seed heads and poppy seed heads, but most things will look great! I wouldn't personally spray the whole wreath, just bits to go in. Eucalyptus is beautiful as is - you don't need to dry it, it will dry in the wreath, it lasts ages. Bits of ivy poked in will look nice, or pheasant feathers if you can get hold of some?

More great advice, thank you. That's good to know re eucalyptus. I have bought some craft wire but determined not to buy anything else. I have some agapanthus seed heads I was thinking of using.
I normally shy away from this sort of thing but am looking forward to trying things out now.

@Fireweeds I've been looking for battery lights to add to a wreath. Can I ask which ones you bought?
