This is for my grandson.

He likes football and other sport (but mainly football).
He's interested in history at school and does like reading.

He's got so much though and I'd quite like to buy him something to do rather than something to have.

(Could ask his mum but I'd like to think of something myself...so I'm asking you 😂)

Ice cream shop voucher if there’s one anyway nearby

GertrudeBell · 19/11/2022 07:20

The ‘right’ kind of clothes/shoes is a good gift at this age: gets used and doesn’t clutter the place up. Depending on budget: cool trainers; football kit or hoodies etc.

Fifa gift voucher (assuming he plays)

Klask is a really fun and well-made table top ice-hockey style game using magnets.

Mine is getting a drone with camera and a fast car driving experience at local airfield. A minecraft annual, gaming hoody and socks. Then some little stocking things.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/11/2022 07:58

My DD, (not DS) loves experiences like a Snowboarding lesson or watersports.

Football Billionaire game and subscription to Match magazine

Sorry if you’ve already thought of it but what about a stadium tour if he like’s football. It’s he’s not got a specific team Man Utd / Man City are both good tours coupled with a hotel stay and a visit to the football museum is a pretty awesome football weekend. Could also swap tour for premier league game.

If he likes history get him an annual pass for English Heritage and you promise to take him?

carefulcalculator · 19/11/2022 08:09

A great present if he doesn't have one is a proper microscope, if he's into science or natural history at all. Our eldest was given one and all ours had a real microscope phase, it is useful for art too (looking at details).

This was a great experience for my young DC.

Not sure what your budget is, but some 'doing' things my DS has enjoyed are...
Hydraulic robot arm
Air hockey game
V8 model engine
3D pen

He also likes cool things for his room such as Alexa Echo dot, smart LED strip lights (controlled by Alexa), lava lamp, nice blanket, posters (football team or fav player), wall art (my son has a personalised graffiti wall sticker in his room which he loves Graffiti wall sticker)

Good point

if you fancy something to do together and you’re near London or Birmingham try doing a Bake Off together at The Big Bakes!
booking this for DS12 and he’ll love it!

Herts7 · 19/11/2022 19:37

If he has lots of stuff already I suggest football pyjamas, for his favourite team or country (easy to find online) - as PJs get worn every day!

Nice reference books are always a good gift for an avid reader DK do lovely history ones such as 'Timelines of Everything' 'Knowledge Encyclopedia History' and 'History Year by Year'.

Experiences are always a lovely gift but will depend on your budget.

Guinness Book of Records.
Football shirt for his favourite team. Bear in mind that if you add a name, and the PL sleeve badges, they are expensive! Also have a look at his team's online store - there will be plenty to choose from to suit all budgets. As a child, I always wanted the team duvet cover, but my parents deemed it a waste of money!!
Zoo keeper for a day experience, or an animal encounter. I think most zoos offer something along these lines.
If you are near London, one of the walking tours. I have only ever done the Paddington one, but I know there are ghost walks, graffiti tours etc. These may be available outside London, I just haven't seen any!
