4+ Lego vs 6+ Lego

My son has just turned 4 and loves the 4+ Lego sets. Looking for a space one for Christmas and the one I think he’ll like best is age 6+. Does anyone with kids who are into Lego know what the difference is…? Is he likely to find it too fiddly and get bored or did your 4 year olds get on fine with the 6+ sets? Thanks!

4+ will have less building to do. 6+ more individual pieces.

But likely to need help building either. Its fun to do it together.

6+ might take a bit longer but I think Lego is one of those toys that adults enjoy "helping" with.

He will probably be able to do with adult help

Depends on ability to follow instructions. DS was fine with a 7+ set on his 4th birthday with a bit of help, 8+ independently for Christmas at four and a half.

He’ll probably get on fine with 6+ if he’s used to doing 4+ sets.

My DS used to just need help with any stickers and the odd fiddly bits.

How competent is he with the 4+? And do you want a set he can do completely independently or will you be on hand to keep an eye? IME there is a bit of a jump from 4+ sets, which are pretty basic with lots of large pre-formed pieces, to 5+. The jump between each age group after that is less noticeable.
8yo ND DD1 struggles with spacial awareness/reasoning, so can't always manage Lego sets that are the 'right' age for her independently. She can manage older sets if I sit with her and flag when she's got something in the wrong place/missed a bit and remind her to keep the model aligned with the instructional picture. 6yo DD2 has none of DD1's spacial difficulties and is good at following instructions, so can manage sets independently that are a few years above her actual age.

Thanks all!

He can do the 4+ ones independently so I’ll go for the 6+ with a plan to be on hand to help! :)
