Looking for great ideas to gift to a family.
Adults and older kids .

Budget maybe up to £200ish?

Not vouchers or tokens or memberships please as done lots of them previously and would prefer something they can actually open.

I'm struggling with a gift that everyone will like...a Nintendo switch maybe? If the adults are into casual gaming or fitness?

KitchenSupper · 15/11/2022 22:46

Chocolate fountain

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/11/2022 22:47

Board game hamper with a couple of games and then drinks/snacks to consume whilst playing.

Barleysugar86 · 15/11/2022 22:50

Tickets to an actual event happening nearby for say January or February? You'd need to look at their local theatres and see what is showing. I've gifted Book of Mormon tickets, Bat out of Hell tickets and comedy Whose Line is it Anyway tickets before. They seemed really well received! You'd have to probably check they would be free on the date though.

NitsTitsandinbits · 15/11/2022 22:50

They have an X box they don’t use so not sure an alternative would be either? Are they much different? The adults aren’t gamers for sure though.

board games selection could be a possibility. Any suggestions that aren’t monopoly?

I do know they have a chocolate fountain as it came out at a birthday previously!

Hotel Chocolate velvetiser, travel cups or hand crafted mugs, a selection of flavours, marshmallows and cute personalised teaspoons from Etsy?

EmmatheStageRat · 15/11/2022 22:52

How about a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser bundle, plus extra flavoured hot chocolate packages for the children and coffee sachets for the adults?

It was one of our top three lockdown purchases and is still used every weekend for luxurious hot chocolate. Also, it is a very eye-pleasing kitchen gadget.

You beat me to it. By a minute!

My lovely son gifted Rugby Tickets for us all to watch Wales v Argentina at Principality Stadium….it was absolutely amazing…I have always wanted to be there for the Welsh national anthem and I wasn’t disappointed 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
We traveled from South East .

A great game to play with adults and older offspring is Apples to Apples. Not a board game as such, but really very good.

caringcarer · 15/11/2022 22:56

A pizza oven. The greatest gift we ever bought ourselves during lockdown. Best thing ever. Nicer pizzas than any takeaway ones.

milkysmum · 15/11/2022 22:59

Occulus?

@NitsTitsandinbits

Tension is a great game.

PhotoDad · 15/11/2022 23:02

How old are the kids? Do they (and adults) have patience to learn a boardgame slightly more complex than family ones like Monopoly?
I'm thinking of a "legacy" boardgame... one which you play multiple times as a group and a story unfolds. Such as "Pandemic Legacy" or "The King's Dilemma."
(My family loves that kind of thing but not everyone does!)

NitsTitsandinbits · 16/11/2022 06:53

No definitely not keen board gamers and I’ve just spoken to a shared acquaintance who said they don’t have the patience for simple games so think that’s out!

They have a velvetiser and a pizza oven. They have an occulus.

sigh

all great ideas though thank you. I might have to revert back to tickets after all.

one of the kids is diabetic so too many sweets isn’t good so any hamper ideas with sweets wouldn’t work.

kids are 12-18

Following as I have a whole family to buy for, kids are older in this case (20s) and just home for the holidays.
My budget is lower than yours as I'm trying to keep to max £15 per person. I'm thinking of something warm (maybe slipper socks or a hot water bottle) each plus a family gift of a snack hamper they can have together. Snack'd do international hampers on a one off or subscription basis which looks fun.

backinthebox · 16/11/2022 07:09

Over the years my sister and I have bought each other’s families the following:
Harry Potter studio tour
Coasteering
Via ferrata and zip lining
Indoor skydiving
Tickets to Matilda, School of Rock, the Luin King, Wicked.

Trust me, if they have loads of stuff already, the last thing they will need is loads more stuff. We made the switch to outings instead of stuff because we simply didn’t need or want even more physical items. A day out together is a lot of fun - but make sure you know your audience.

backinthebox · 16/11/2022 07:10

Oh, and Giffords Circus for a few years was a big hit too.

Leeds2 · 16/11/2022 13:44

If you do go for tickets, how about a llama walk? Great fun, and you could buy them all a token llama gift to open eg notebook, t shirt etc (lots of things seem to have llamas on these days!).

A croquet, or badminton, set for the garden.

Home cinema type hamper with a selection of DVDs, hot chocolate, popcorn etc.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 16/11/2022 17:07

What do they like?

Stickmansmum · 16/11/2022 21:29

Icecream maker. Or a raclette machine.
