V cheap presents for kids

GhostWorld · 15/11/2022 08:55

I was planning on messaging DPs cousins to say that we can't afford to buy presents for their kids this year (5 kids in total ranging from 1-5) so they shouldn't buy for my DS but I've just seen one of them has posted on SM that she's sorted presents for all the family babies (which my son would be included in) so I think I've missed my chance. Now I need present ideas that are super cheap but don't look it.. any thoughts?? Was already worried about affording DSs presents!

Second hand bookshop for new looking books?
What age range are they?

Moro93 · 15/11/2022 09:02

A few mixed price ideas

Books
Packs of Crayola pens/crayons with colouring book
Chocolate santa
2 for £15 toys in Argos
Orchard toy games
Puzzles
A t-shirt/other clothing item of a character they like
Character umbrella
Hobbycraft do lots of kids craft items, such as canvases or wooden designs for children to paint and they're all very cheap

Smarshian · 15/11/2022 09:03

My go to gifts for that age are craft/ activity packs, books and/or board games for the over 3’s (orchard games)
You could do them a little parcel each of 2x books (10 for £10 from the works) and then a board game/ activity pack each or a colour your own Christmas mug. Prices are £2-£7, but some of the pricier ones are on 3 for £15. So 2 books and an activity for £4-£7 each.

ExcuseeeeMe · 15/11/2022 09:07

The works 10 books for £10 is great

Flow Rings - www.amazon.co.uk/ASPIRE-UK-Ring-Kinetic-Sculpture-Interactive/dp/B08PZGQ71X/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1W1GZJWEKXQ63&keywords=flow+rings&qid=1668504814&sprefix=Flow+rings+%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-3

Go down surprisingly well with kids I know and if you check ebay you'll find them for around £1.69 each. Big hit on Christmas day!

Lovemusic33 · 15/11/2022 09:38

Lots of kenetic sand sets in the entertainer (and online), some of the bigger sets are £6 I think.

It kind of depends on how cheap you want? For me I am spending £5-£10 on nieces and nephews, ideally I like to buy something that was £20 and is now under £10.

RobinRobinMouse · 15/11/2022 09:41

Could you group it for some sort of family present like a game or something?

Orangesare · 15/11/2022 09:42

Sticker book/colouring book and decent felt pens (£3 from Amazon) or crayons.
Mine love the usborne sticker books and if you shop around some are considerably cheaper.
Also it gives them something to do on Christmas day

PutOnAHappyFace · 15/11/2022 09:50

Could you speak to her? I have 4 DCs and don't expect anyone to buy for all of them when I'm only buying for 1 of theirs.

PutOnAHappyFace · 15/11/2022 09:51

Oh ignore me, I read that as the cousin has 5 kids.

Home Bargains have some amazing value bits at the moment. Lovely sticker books from 89p, little shapes tins with chocolate coins or gingerbread men in for £1, books, craft bits, great selection of bath bombs, eye masks, hair brushes, accessories etc, as well as a big range of toys.!

RobertaTheRobot · 15/11/2022 10:43

I got a sabre tooth tiger fingerling toy (they do other animals too) for £5 from the entertainer onine last week for DC stocking but it'd too big so ideal as a wrapped present. If you wanted to add a Cadbury selection box to it or a colouring book (pound shop or home bargains had batman one for £0.79) it would make a good present or even just the fingerling on its own, or just a selection box with colouring book ect.

GhostWorld · 15/11/2022 11:23

Wow this is amazing loads of stuff I wouldn't have thought of, that's really helped with my anxiety over it all.. thanks so much everyone

The Works are doing 3 gift toys for £15 or
2 for £12.

I got a frustration style game and a bucking bronco style game, and a floor jigsaw puzzle that plays nursery rhymes

Raindancer411 · 15/11/2022 10:26

I bought that for dgs off of the last bargain thread. He has played with it loads and it came here again on Saturday. He was two and a half when I bought it and still likes it a lot at three and a half. It's a great buy.

A game they can share and a chocolate Santa each.

SugarCookieMonster · 15/11/2022 14:15

The Range had some cheap toys and craft kits. A game that was like Buckaroo but a unicorn instead of the donkey was £4.99.

Also join the Christmas bargains thread (I think we’re on number 11 now) as there’s lots of great deals and discount codes shared on there.

Scanner20 · 16/11/2022 21:40

Argos have some crayola items half price. Some of the kits could be broken down and then added to a colouring book, mini chalk board or writing pads. Washimals are half price at around £5 with options to suit boys or girls.

The works have some great finds for 3 for £15. Tkmaxx usually have some good options too and have the clearance section. I always find something in there this time of year.

BigScreen · 16/11/2022 21:49

Depending on ages, make a hamper for all to share. Dvd, popcorn, pick n mix sweets, drinks and maybe a blanket for them all to share and sit under while watching the film.

Pipsickl · 16/11/2022 22:00

If u get on Argos they have a load of nice crayola sets for £5 or less

they also have some bing toys for £5

Amazon have some cool gelly bath sets and stuff like that for less than £5

other really cheap stuff - do ur kids and theirs have any photos together this year? Could put a photo in a new frame for their bedrooms (or secondhand frame!)

look for new toys or sets or clothes on vinted

another cool and cheap idea - make a hot chocolate set (buy a cup, mini mallows, various hot choc sachets) - you can also do popcorn sets (buy the popcorn, and a few flavours, put in a plastic popcorn bowl)

good luck xx

CakeCrumbs44 · 17/11/2022 06:44

Aldi and Lidl often have Christmas bits and toys for very good prices.
Also have a look on Amazon at your current promotions. If you haven't used Amazon locker before, you might be able to try it and get £7 off no minimum spend.
