My dd loves drawing. I’d love to but her something that’s professional looking but also age appropriate.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

My daughter was the same. We mostly bought her good sets of crayons, specialist crayons and cartridge drawing pads. Buy her adult stuff, not kids.

The very best thing we ever bought her when she was about 12 was a drawing tablet. This allows them to do digital drawing.

She now has a well paid job doing this.

You really don't need a lot to encourage a love of drawing.

I recommend some quality pencils (or coloured pencils) such as Derwent/ Faber Castell, perhaps a set of pan watercolours (Cotman/ Winsor and Newton are good), and a good quality sketchbook.

Make sure the paper is heavy enough if you are getting watercolours (Something like www.hobbycraft.co.uk/seawhite-plein-air-landscape-multimedia-sketchbook-a4/6415591001.html?glCountry=GB&gclid=CjwKCAiA68ebBhB-EiwALVC-NsAZJD1KUWSIS6f_ZYX2lcB1dbV1OJb8Q4CmgmqNEsQqsuJU_mI7QxoC20IQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

What she really will need is encouragement! The materials are less important.

Watch some youtube videos with her and then get her out and about with her sketchbook, encourage her to look at the world and draw people, places and things she sees. Take photos that she can work from at home later.

Arteza brush pens are brilliant

My girls are the same and I always buy them proper art stuff from a local art shop not childrens versions. I would get some nice brushes, thick paper or sketch book, mixing palette and some acrylic or gouache paints. We do a lot of the tutorials from artenthusiasts.london/kids which are excellent.

The Draw With Rob books are a bit hit in our house. If they look a bit too easy or simplistic, try this, which my 11 year old devoured! He also loved the animal Drawing Made Easy set art.royalbrush.com/art-activities/drawing-made-easy-art-activity-sets

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 14/11/2022 12:17

My DC had a book called 'how to draw animals' which they loved. A long time ago but I googled 'how to draw animals' and got several hits. Appreciate you can get that all online now but sometimes a good old fashioned book is nice! If she's not 'into' animals, I'm sure there will be similar for other things she's interested in.

I’ve bought my 8yo her own drawing table so she has her own drawing space. Ive also got her lots of arts bits to go with it. I’ve got canvas pads, paints, charcoal pencils, blending tools, electric rubber, Posca pens, how to draw gatcha books, design your own comic. I looked at drawing books but she gets a lot of her inspiration and techniques from her tablet.

I've got my arty DD a couple of scrawlrbox 'previous boxes' for £5 each (example linked: scrawlrbox.uk/products/aug-21-scrawlrbox).

MammaWeasel · 28/11/2022 19:33

Thank you @noscoobydoodle you've just cost me a tenner! 😉😊

Stompythedinosaur · 28/11/2022 21:39

Posca pens are a huge hit with my dds, the art they produce with them is exceptional.
