Hamper for mum

My mum keeps dropping heavy hints about wanting a hamper, but she’s a bit fussy so I can’t find one that works
I’m thinking of making one but my budget is tight, around £80 max, which might be difficult if I’m buying a few gifts.
any ideas what I can put in it?

What sort of hamper? A good hamper or a pamper type hamper?

Harebrain · 13/11/2022 15:20

Food not good!

Mistlefrog · 13/11/2022 15:39

Either!
she doesn’t like tea or coffee, chocolate, cheese or booze though so that’s 99% of usual hamper stuff ruled out!

I think with so many food exclusions, I’d go down the pamper route. Boots often have a good selection at this time of year. I’ve seen one in Joules too which was a nice wicker hamper with some toiletries and fluffy socks in it. It was a lot less than£80 so you could buy that and add in some extras….face mask, nail wraps/nail polish, body scrub, etc,.

What does she like? Reading / gardening / crafting/ baking / pampering?
Could build a hamper around a hobby.

Wilkos used to do wicker baskets with crepe paper and platic wrapping for £5.00

I'd be happy with a hamper filled with crisps, twiglets cheesy biscuits etc.

Is she doesn't like any of those things I think you'll have make one yourself of things you know she does like.
Maybe theme it- cosy night in ( wool/ cashmere socks, bubble bath, body lotion, candle, book, food treat) sunny day in the garden ( gardening gifts) or cookery/ foody one, hard to say without knowing what you mum likes but from your list of no goes it's unlikely to be a traditional style ready made one .
Maybe try and sound her out about types of hampers she likes?

Nice jams and chutneys?

How about a posh Italian foods hamper? Some items are nice & bulky so will fill it out nicely. Here are some ideas:

Colourful pasta /linguine etc
Olive oil / chilli oil
Balsamic vinegar
Jar of olives
Jar of antipasti
Jar of Sundried tomatoes
Italian biscuits - cantucini, amaretti
Panettone (there are some lovely ones around at xmas time)
Pack of napkins (with olives on!)
A small Italian cookbook
Pasta bowl

Just random stuff she likes tbh, you can get hamper baskets with the tissue paper etc in aldi now I think it is for a reasonable price so it looks all posh. If she's super fussy with food no point buying a ready made one. A mug? Slippers? Pamper stuff? Book?
