Gifts for 4 & 7 year old boys (that I don’t know)

I wish to buy gifts for 4 and 7 year old boys (not related so no joint gifts) that I have for as part of a charity gift supporting families in need.

I would like some ideas please on what to buy - budget £15-20 each. I would like to get 2-3 things per child if possible. Ideas so far are:

Lego for both

7 year old: Top Trumps, something Super Hero or dinosaurs, Dobble, fun book,

4 year old: something Super Hero or dinosaurs, Orchard Toys game, book, colouring book & pens/crayons etc

All kids of those ages love fidget toys and slime if you wanted little things as add ons. Lego is a good idea as the main thing for each.

Mini dynamo torches (the kind that you generate by a thumb crank button) are a good call.
And no batteries to worry about.

I think your ideas are good.

The only thing I'd question is the Lego because it's very expensive, to stick within your budget it would be a tiny set and if they don't have Lego already to add it to (which they may not if they're living in difficult circumstances) then it's a bit pointless.

I'd go for something that's complete within itself.

I think sketch book/plain paper pad and pens is a great idea (maybe with colouring book/stickers/glue and scissors as well).

A game like top trumps, dobble, orchard toys etc. Or a puzzle.

Book, always good.

Bouncy balls are always popular ime and a small add-on gift.

I'd probably go animals or dinosaurs over superheros because I think they're more generally popular.

My book suggestions would be The Bumper Treehouse Fun Book for the 7yo and You Choose for the 4yo. Both are usually £6-7.

I've never found a dc around that age that doesn't love a pot of slime - can usually get these for £1-2.

Then I've choose them each something from the Argos 2 for £20 sale:

This lego set would be good for the 7yo.
Maybe something like this robo dinosaur for the 4yo?

Do they have siblings/someone to play with? Rhino Hero is a lovely and cheap game. Agree with PPs thoughts on Lego being a bit budget busting. Little stocking fillers like slime and fidget spinners are a good idea to get on top of a book or game

I disagree about Lego being too expensive. There are lots of Lego Classic sets that are under £20 and you get a few things to build plus extra bits. Then you could get slime/torch/fidget toys with the few pounds you had leftover.

Duplo for 4 yo and Lego for 7 yo

Topbird29 · 13/11/2022 17:28

Sometimes you can get little lego sets for around £10 - especially the superhero mech sets (these are complete sets).
Goo jit zu are popular with my boys (now 8 and 10). They ate squishy, stretchy characters. They would be good for both ages, and usually £7 - £10.
Usually can get bits in argos if they still do 2 for £15, can maybe get something in boots in 3 for 2 offers, and entertainer and snyths often have good offers. Also amazon near black Friday. Sometimes have books 2 for £7. At 4-5 mine like the Osborne sticker books where you dress people, and also where you search and find.

Topbird29 · 13/11/2022 17:29

You can also get lego that is aged 4+. Bridges the gap between duplicate and lego nicely.

Voiceofreason92 · 13/11/2022 17:30

My 2 boys are that age and they absolutely love hot wheel cars. They get played with constantly.

Space stuff and dinosaur stuff are always popular

They'd be chuffed to bits with lego- a cracking gifts.

My 7 year old has asked for a rubicks cube for Christmas so that's a good shout too.

They both also like football and a pack of world cup football trading cards would be a good stocking filler

Topbird29 · 13/11/2022 17:34

LEGO Marvel Iron Man Mech Armour Action Figure Set 76203 - is £9 in argos. Also a black panther one for £9.

"Build Your Own Aliens Sticker Book" (Build Your Own Sticker Book) - this and other "build your own " themed sticker books on amazon for about £6 each.

My son loves those dinosaur eggs that you put in a bowl/glass of water and over a few days they 'hatch'. They are a lot of entertainment for not much money.

AnneButNotHathaway · 14/11/2022 08:38

I like your ideas! Coloring book suggestion would be cool for both of them, you can even make coloring calendars with Marvel/DC characters or dinosaurs. Also think stickers, there are glowing ones, too, this would be a hit for both 4 and 7yo!

Second @Voiceofreason92 - I picked up some gift tags from my local dunelm. One of those was for 4-8 year old boys and asked for Hot Wheels. I got two sets of 9 cars fron Argos for £15 so maybe a set of those each and then a book and some crafty activity

Mummyme87 · 14/11/2022 10:31

I have a 4yr old and 8yr old boy. They continue to love hot wheels, super cars
etc. Lego is always a winner, they prefer Lego city and my 4yr old is at 6+ in Lego now. Duplo is far too young and I personally think the 4+ Is aswell.
yes to slime, my youngest loves the You choose book also. My eldest loves storey Treehouse books.
