Best crane & excavator for 3 year old?

As the title really! What cranes and excavators (for indoor role play rather than sand/mud play) have you really rated for this age bracket?

It needs to be reasonably robust, but easy to use in a semi-realistic way (he's got a cheapy b&m one that doesn't turn on the base unless he holds the base aswell, and we had to take the tracks off because it wouldn't move easily on them)

Can be remote controlled, but if so we wouldn't want one with the remote wired to the toy

Budget would be under £100 ideally, but this will actually be his 3rd birthday present so we could go slightly over for a really perfect one. (I couldn't work out where best to post a toy recommendation thread, this seemed the best place)

We bought this second hand off Facebook market place for my sons 3rd Christmas (age 3.5 years) as he was completely obsessed with any kind of diggers, trucks, tractors etc.
it's been great - loads of different bits to play with but no really small fiddly bits a 3 year old wouldn't be able to master. It's super robust and has been leant out to 2 nephews and is now back in our house, he refuses to get rid of it now age 8, it's honestly been one of the most used toys we've ever had. Any time kids come over (his age or younger) this is the toy that gets played with most!
We picked up a few things from this brand after the success of this one and they really are built to last (albeit pricey to start with!) but hold their value well Smile

We also had the duplo one recommended above and although totally different in style is also great (and in fact still in the house, another thing so well loved DS8 still doesn't want to get rid!)

Dc4 has his brother’s Playmobil digger that is going strong after 6 years. It gets used indoors & out with Lego bricks, cars, sand & mud. The Bruder vehicles are great. We have the Duplo crane and don’t get on with it, however the excavator, digger & bulldozers are brilliant.

Little Tikes make great toys and they do an excavator .

Beanbagtrap · 12/11/2022 21:56

Tonka ones are well made

I came on to say Bruder toys are really impressive, work well and robust. We bought ours from the actual Caterpillar factory visitor centre so they must be engineer approved!

LillyBugg · 12/11/2022 22:12

I'd say playmobil. It lasts forever.

Smyths toys have some and I'm sure little tikes will too. X

JCB too. X

Just had a look at the range, John Deere excavators are on their for £65. That's a brilliant make, they make real equipment. X

noscoobydoodle · 13/11/2022 07:28

The John Deere toys have been well loved here and are very robust- perfect for a main present. My DS current favourite is actually a blippi excavator which I had low expectations for but is actually surprisingly well made. He also loves his cranky the crane playset and a diecast corgi crane.

Bruder toys are very well made and realistic
