What does santa get your kids and what comes from you?

My little boy will be 16 months old 2 days after Christmas so he won't understand but I want to keep it the same every year. Last year I did a letter from santa (will be mics to look back on as he grows) and mentioned some things I said he liked and then santa got him his stocking presents and a want, need, wear and a read and everything else was from us/whoever got him it. Does this seem like a good idea going forward? What do you do?

Santa does sack and main present, everything else come from us. Also if our kids wanted something expensive we told them Santa had the same budget for everyone so they had to pay him the extra for expensive things out of their pocket money so that they didn't question Santa buying expensive presents for them but not some of their friends. X

iusedtohavechickens · 09/11/2022 17:21

Also santa uses a different wrapping paper for them. In fact they have a different wrapping paper each so 'Santa' doesn't have to write the names on all the sack presents and can tell who's is who's, by sight! 😂

Cosycover · 09/11/2022 17:23

Santa brings everything

PuttingDownRoots · 09/11/2022 17:23

Stocking and the one thing they've asked for. Plus a family present.

mathanxiety · 09/11/2022 17:24

Santa brought everything here.

Any gifts sent from godparents, grandparents, etc. were put under the tree as they arrived, all wrapped. We opened them on Christmas Eve and wrote thank you notes.

Santa gifts were all put under the tree by Santa overnight, not wrapped. I usually stuck to three items each and emphasised that Santa would pick three to give from their lists.

No stockings, just little ones filled with small Aldi chocolate Santas and chocolate coins.

princesspeppax · 09/11/2022 17:29

Santa does one thing for each of mine. Everything else is labelled from whoever it came from

CherryLongIsland · 09/11/2022 17:29

We did this too but obviously didn’t think it through until ds started asking why we never gave him any Xmas presents.
Mine have all asked this at some point but we said we buy them presents when they're too old for Father Christmas to come which is why DH and I buy for each other.

hopeishere · 09/11/2022 17:30

Santa brings stocking and big presents all opened first thing.

We give a present later in the day.

Presents from relatives are handed over on the day from giver to recipient.

Forfukzsake · 09/11/2022 17:33

Everything that we get the DC comes from Santa. Everything from relatives is given to the DC by the relatives in person.

ThreeRingCircus · 09/11/2022 17:33

Stockings from Father Christmas and everything else from who it is from so the recipient can be thanked. They're more excited by the stockings than the presents under the tree in all honesty!

CherryLongIsland · 09/11/2022 17:45

Young children don't understand why he brought Sarah a full room full of toys and them just one thing and causes lots of upset

I'm not wholly convinced on this.
In my experience children tend to talk about what they got for Christmas rather than who brought it and often they talk about really random things, my DC's favourite gifts over the years have been crayons, snaps, Pringles, a harmonica, dog socks, mini cans of Coke, Barbie shoes!

Having said that I've never linked Father Christmas visiting to behaviour with my children or anyone children I meet.

RobinRobinMouse · 09/11/2022 17:51

Father Christmas gives everything that is bought by us. That is a stocking (really a sack) and either one big main or 2-3 smaller mains. I work in a school and agree with pp that the children don't really compare gifts and what was from who, they just tend to talk about what excited them most (usually something very cheap like a colour change pencil!)

Bigbadfish · 09/11/2022 17:52

Santa does everything here
The eleven come to decorate and leave adveng calanders and leave sweets in the shoes if you've been good and then Santa brings all the gifts.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 09/11/2022 17:55

1 or 2 small presents in a stocking from santa, everything else from whoever it is from. No main presents from santa

Mummapenguin20 · 09/11/2022 17:55

Mummy sends money to Santa for materials. Santa makes presents and delivers them

Mommabear20 · 09/11/2022 17:56

We just do stockings FROM Santa, but everything else from other people, gets sent to Santa before Christmas and he brings it all on Christmas Eve. This is what my parents said to us growing up and up until I found them in my parents closet (by mistake, I wasn't looking for them) aged 10, we never went looking for them as we didn't think they were ever any in the house 😂

Iamnotthe1 · 09/11/2022 17:57

All gifts are bought by those who bought them and given to Santa who then, through his system, decides which of the gifts you actually get.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 09/11/2022 17:59

Santa does the stockings and 1 present - which is either the main thing they’ve asked for or it’s something I’d never buy as I think it’s a waste of money (Mr Frosty for example 😆)

Well that’s how it used to be, now they’re non believers. Teens. 😩

PWV · 09/11/2022 18:01

Everything except one main present goes in the stocking sack. Main gift from parent is under my parents tree as we all arrive there about 11am and open them with all the cousins etc. Everything else is from whoever gave it.

AuntieStella · 09/11/2022 18:06

Stocking from Father Christmas, with lots of little things (to about the size of a pillowcase)

One present from each parent, and siblings (which of course we buy until their old enough to do it themself). Everything else from whoever gave it.

Stockings from Father Christmas get opened first thing. Tree presents, from named people, in the afternoon. We like to spread events through the day

Ginger1982 · 09/11/2022 18:06

Santa brings the stocking and one gift that DS wants. The rest is from whoever gives it.

TheTeddyBears · 09/11/2022 18:17

I think it's a gd idea to get this ironed out early! I wish I had decided more in advance about what we would say. We disagreed and then suddenly I found myself making it up as I went along 🙈

I grew up believing Santa got me my big gift (so the most expensive/big toy thing). Mum and dad bought me the rest but they sent them wrapped to Santa and he brought all the gifts together. Any family gifts I knew who they were given from.

My dh just believed Santa made and brought everything. I thought this was a bit shit as it looks like we buy everyone presents but not our kids but well they haven't questioned it. Sometimes I've been caught off guard and said oh well everyone has to send money to Santa to get all the gifts 🙈

You can change stuff as things go one, no one really notices if you dont make a big fuss... or maybe my kid and DH is just a little too dense to notice.

I have refinded things over they years and no one has noticed... we have only done santa sacks for 4 years but pretty sure my oldest and DH would have the mandela effect of them always being there, they certainly never questioned the change.

Theres also stuff I do every year for over a decade that still every xmas (xmas eve boxes, hot chocolate and gingerbread, annuals etc...) that DH acts confused by and says hes never heard of before dispite having the same convosation EVERY YEAR when we do it lol.

Craftybodger · 09/11/2022 18:39

Father Christmas fills the stocking/sack with wrapped gifts. Small things, stationary, underwear, pocket money toys, chocolates, toiletries with a bag of chocolate coins and a satsuma at the bottom. Sack is left by the fireplace and discovered in the morning. His wrapping paper is unique to him and not used for other presents. Yes I wrap them, it makes it last longer and adds to the magic!
presents from us and others are placed under the tree, sometime in the days before Christmas or on Christmas Eve. They are given from a person and that person is thanked.

CinnamonStar · 09/11/2022 18:40

Stocking from Father Christmas. 8 or 9 small things, usually 3-4 are edible, and there’s always a book in there too.

Everything else under the tree from whoever bought it.

The cats always get everyone a present, and tend to be good at getting brilliant surprises, but they are also the ones that try to source the one thing you really really want - they’re so good at it that Father Christmas always just leaves it up to them. (They are not great at wrapping though, and it usually has “claw marks” aka last year’s torn wrapping paper, and they can’t get anything too big because they can’t carry it!)
