Boxing Day Game - Small Group with Grandparents

Mum has asked me to buy a game for Boxing Day. Any recommendations for two grandparents, two parents and 1 DS age 9.

She wants something easy/not too taxing on the brain! 😂

Any suggestions please?

Recommending this which also comes in other versions such as bird bingo. It’s light hearted fun, doesn’t drag on. You can probably get it cheaper I just did a quick Google.

A pack of cards.

We like Labyrinth for a game where 3 generations can compete pretty evenly.

The sock game is good

Dixit!

We always play bingo at Christmas , we all ( my sisters) chip in with some small prizes and we do a line / 2 lines / house . Scratch cards can be used for the line prizes . My husband and BIL normally turn it into a bit of a farce but it’s tradition now after Christmas dinner .

Arenanewbie · 09/11/2022 12:44

Another vote for Labyrinth.

Settlers of Catan.

But if you really want to cause an argument get the Really Nasty Horse Racing Game for the adults and a first aid kit for the 9 year old.

We love Suspend for these age ranges (8-90 in our house) and Dobble too. If it has to be a board type game then 5 second rule and Rapidough are pretty good.

Beeboppy · 09/11/2022 12:58

Yogi is good fun at the table if your older folk are reasonably mobile e.g could hold a playing card against their ear for ten minutes

FadedRed · 09/11/2022 13:07

Newmarket for money. Save up your 1p or 2p or 5p pieces so you can give every one 10 or so, the kids get to keep their winnings.

saraclara · 09/11/2022 13:10

Articulate is our go to game. Easy rules and fun for all. I think thatanything that involves communicating with each other is ideal for multi generational games.

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 09/11/2022 13:19

Scrawl family version
good fun and everyone is busy in every round.

yoshiblue · 09/11/2022 13:19

Thanks so much all, will have a Google this afternoon!

Dobble, truly cross generational. The only times I've seen my stepdad (60s) incensed not to be beaten by a 4 year old!

I was just coming onto say this. We played it as group of 9 to 70 year olds and it was brilliant and hilarious.

Herd mentality is brilliant for this.
There is a set of really varied questions, you all write down an answer and then compare them. If one answer is more popular than the others, the people who came up with that answer get a point. It's quite amusing as some people try and anticipate what someone else is going to put but everyone else is doing the same too so you get quite a mixture.
