Looking for something maybe different to the usual monopoly, cludo etc. Bonus if Dd7 can play too.

Labyrinth, Ramses, Ticket to ride (although might be a stretch for a 7 yo - my DD7 plays it with adult help), Rummikub

Lastminutebride · 08/11/2022 20:54

Sequence is a new favourite of my DD.

Mum22boysJI · 08/11/2022 20:55

My two DS (10 and 7) love:

  • Ticket to ride First Journey
  • Horrible Histories board game
  • Battleships
Sigma33 · 08/11/2022 20:59

Ticket to Ride
Splendor

Boriswentcamping · 08/11/2022 20:59

Carcassonne is quite good. The basic game would work for both ages and you can add expansion packs to add more interest when playing with the older child. Works quite well as a family game.

Mol1628 · 08/11/2022 21:01

Ticket to ride Europe.

don’t get the first journey one the proper version is much better and fine for a 10 year old.

daretodenim · 08/11/2022 21:03

Another vote for Ticket to Ride. Our 8 year old could play the Europe version. It's actually a great game, I love playing it!

Soproudoflionesses · 08/11/2022 21:03

Cluedo

Summerishere123 · 08/11/2022 21:07

Thanks all. Will definitely look at that one.

I’m an obsessive board gamer so have been playing games with my kids since they were little. These were big hits at that age range:

Kingdomino is a fab tile laying game.

Mindbug is a recent acquisition - it’s a brilliant two-player duelling card game with fun “monster” art - but you can only get it from the publishers’ (Nerd Labs’) website at the moment. My 10-year old plays it obsessively and I’ve had success introducing it to a 6 year old.

Cockroach Poker is a really fun bluffing game where you’re trying to get rid of various bug-themed cards by successfully lying about what the are. A very good laugh.

Klask is not really a board game but a well constructed table top ice-hockey type game where you control your pieces with magnets.

Deep Sea Adventure is an amazing game in a tiny box where you push your luck seeing how far you can send a little submariner to the bottom of the ocean to collect treasure.

In Rhino Hero you play cards in a tower formation and move a little wooden rhino up the tower without knocking it over. It’s a dexterity game with a little bit of cars play.

HopRockers · 08/11/2022 22:54

Whole family of tabletop game fans but my 11 & 7 particularly enjoy
Karuba- placing tiles onto a map to make paths to race along & collect treasure
kingdomino - placing tiles to score points which increase as you place like tiles together
chromino - tri-ominos of three colours, match two to place. Very simple rules but really fun for all ages.
Azule- not quite sure how to describe! Picking tiles to make patterns.

Not a boardgame but the card game dungeon mayhem is brilliant- based loosely on D&D playable on pick up as everything is on the cards. You try to "hit" other players while trying to keep your own life.

We love monopoly empire here because it has a very definite end and is much quicker than regular monopoly. Also enjoy Articulate Kids and Five second rule, both of which would also be fine for the 7 year old too.

XanaduKira · 08/11/2022 23:01

Football Billionaire is great if he likes football.

GrumpyOldBastard · 08/11/2022 23:06

Not a board game, but Exploding Kittens is great for ages 7+ (We all like it, ages 49. 14, 12 and 6)

Purpletoes · 08/11/2022 23:25

Rats to Riches is a favourite in this house with my ds10 and dd7
They also like dino dump card game
Articulate for kids
Exploding kittens
Blokus

I second Carcassonne, it's easy to get going for a 7year old but you can get clever with strategy. First game we really enjoyed with DS.

We are up to our eyeballs in games and I had said no more (to myself) but three that @GertrudeBell recommends have been on my watch list for a while so I'm twitching now.

110APiccadilly · 09/11/2022 07:18

I second Carcassonne, my six year old nephew can play it (we leave out a couple of rules to simplify it for him). I also second Labyrinth which is genius in how simple the rules are.

Catan is good as well and I've played that with a seven year old in the past. Azul would be good and I think playable by a seven year old.

If you fancy a co-operative game then Forbidden Island would work for both I think.

CaptainCallisto · 09/11/2022 07:50

I second Forbidden Island- my two have been happily playing that since they were about 7. Great (and quick) game.

Carcassonne was also a big hit that young, and they still love it at 9 and 10.

Also reinforcing the Ticket to Ride Europe posters - DS2 needed a bit of support when he was 7 or 8, but plays it quite happily at 9.

10 year old DS1 absolutely loves Villainous, the Disney game. Its not a traditional board game, it's a card strategy game where each player has their own objective based on which villain they are. It's absolutely brilliant!

amyboo · 11/11/2022 09:03

OOoh I also second the Rhino hero one. There's actually a new version called Rhino Hero: Super Battle, which is great! Although perhaps more for the 7 year old - my 7 yo DD loves it!

Cheguevarahamster · 11/11/2022 14:24

Castle Panic is a big hit in this house. Its a great co-operative game. Mine are now 12 and 14 but have played it for years.

BlueChampagne · 11/11/2022 15:08

Second Catan and Carcasonne.
Yahtzee?

Magssss · 11/11/2022 15:13

Dragonwood- whole family love it and 7 year old is able to play (indeed has beaten his parents more than once with his strategising 🫣)

Hesma · 14/11/2022 15:26

The sock game!
