Non alcoholic grown up drinks

Shamelessly asking for opinions here. I am a non drinker and I write a blog.

In a couple of weeks I'm doing a post reviewing non alcoholic grown up festive drinks.

Question for other non drinkers here,

Should I include dealcholised products or not?

For those of you who don't drink due to religious or recovery reasons, can you drink dealcoholised products?

So far I've stuck to non alcoholic products in my tasting.

I love an alcohol free mojito or a Middle Eastern / Indian fresh lime soda.

wizbit93 · 09/11/2022 19:39

I don't drink for medical reasons. I would love a non alcoholic baileys but can't seem to find any.
I've ordered some Pina Colada Monin syrup and am going to try making a mocktail with it.

I’m pregnant currently and really like the mixed berries non alcoholic Koppaberg.
I’ve also got a gooseberry and elderflower cordial which is gorgeous with sparkling water and ice. My non alcoholic go to pre- pregnancy was usually elderflower presse.
A lot of the other belvoir soft drinks are really nice too.

I love the fever tree tonics, and they are great as they don’t have sweetener in them.

I would love clear listing of drinks and whether or not they have sweetener in them, as I have to avoid it, and lots of drinks now have it due to sugar tax, so it’s always nice to have an alternative to alcohol that I can drink.

Not J20 and standard lemonade... every pregnant woman I know hates them as the non alcoholic option lol.

I like virgin pina coladas (proper slush ones) although maybe awkward to make.

Non alcoholic koppaberg is nice for non alcohol dupes.

Energy drinks are good if people like that.

Quirky fun cans of pop for teens (like birthday cake flavor etc...).

Appletize is generally nice for most people.

I would also try to feature a range of products which are available in different places.

The selection of soft drinks available in pubs and restaurants isn't usually that great, but it would be useful for me to know:

  1. Of the soft drinks I might actually be able to order in a pub or restaurant, which are the best?
  2. When I am buying stuff to drink at home or bring to a party at someone else's house, what can I get in Sainsburys/Waitrose/Tesco/Asda which is actually nice?

At the moment I love Aldi's Peach Limeade and Lucozade Pink Grapefruit. They remind me of the old Archers Aquas from the early 2000s! And they are low cal too!
I also really like Kylies new non alcoholic sparkling rosé

lightisnotwhite · 10/11/2022 15:42

Someone posted Blanc de Blanc ( Chardonnay fizz) which apparently tastes as good as real fuzz. Nonsecco was sweet and lacking in perlage.
If they just made something drier and fizzier it would be a start. I think this is water soda or fuzzy water is popular because it does have the dryness. Andrew Liver salts should make a drink.

SanBitter is good for the Negroni type taste mentioned above - served on lots of ice with an orange slice. It's not sugar free though.

Subbaxeo · 10/11/2022 20:26

Tbh, I’d just drink water. The only nonalco I enjoy is beer-Erdinger 0% is great and most are palatable. So if I fancy a beer but am driving, would happily drink that. I dislike alcohol free wine-too sugary so prefer fizzy water. I do have Seedlip occasionally-but only to make a Negroni less alcoholic. Otherwise, I don’t think you can beat a cold full fat Coke.

Most of us non drinkers ( but not forever ) seem to veer towards plain, flavoured tonic or fizzy water. I like M&S non alcoholic Rose which tastes like wine that’s had ice in and been left at the side of the party all night. But it does taste vaguely wine like.
Non of my long term non drinking friends seem too bothered about what they drink. My husband likes a ginger beer even though he hates ginger food.

I’m desperate to try Crodino after someone recommended it. And there’s a bigger bottle of similar Italian aperitivo stuff on Amazon.

i think Lidl do a knock-off version of crodino (a blonde and Rosso version) on their Italian foods week. I haven’t tried the blonde one but love the rosso one - it’s somewhere between a negroni and an aperol and really feels like a ‘drink’ over ice! Can highly recommend…

Would second Erdinger but Heineken 0.0 is even nicer.

Twizbe · 11/11/2022 15:08

These are all such great messages.

I'm making mince pies with the kids today so we're going to try out the 'mulled wine' with them.

I'm drinking strongly sparkling water (fizzy water comes in different grades of fizzy here) with a splash of agustura (sp?) bitters. It's not sweet at all and has the nice savory tanine kick of wine, whilst being nearly zero calories

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 11/11/2022 15:18

Do them as a section within the article.

StamppotAndGravy · 11/11/2022 15:21

For non-alcholic beers, there are some really good Dutch and Belgian ones if you can get your hands on them. Leffe 0.0 tastes nearly the same. Lowlander do excellent flavored IPA and van der Streek Playground 0.0 is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. I'm not keen on Heineken in any form

But angostura bitters are far from alcohol-free, even if you do usually only use a small amount.

StamppotAndGravy · 11/11/2022 15:36

That's embarrassing! I didn't even know! It's sold next to soup flavouring here and I'm old enough I never get ID'd so wouldn't notice Blush

VeryQuaintIrene · 11/11/2022 15:41

Brewdog NA beers have changed my life. They are also only 20 calories a can so a good choice if you are watching weight.

Recipe for non alcoholic Bailey's

Agree with PP about being clear on artificial sweeteners too. I have to avoid alcohol and sweeteners
