Christmas decorations.. for the ceiling?

So I'm a true child of the eighties so i need to have ceiling decorations at christmas.. I love the ones in the picture, but want an updated look! Our house has high ceilings and the living room is a big room so I'd need a minimum of 4 lots of 6m length, and I'm struggling to find anything the right size/right colour scheme (silver, turquoise) or anything really! Any suggestions? Is this not a thing any more?

We always used to have these as a child (60s/70s), and I had them when first married. Then decided they were a bit naff so haven't had them for years. And now reading this thread I feel like I really need them again!!!

Off to follow up the suggested sources!

Not what you asked but while we're talking ceiling decorations... friends of mine always make paper chains for their hallway. No children, they just sit down together one night with a bottle of Baileys and make them. Something they've done since married and couldn't afford decorations. They now cut up strips of weekend newspaper magazines. Look absolutely fab.

I have lovely memories of my mum and I making paper chains for Christmas when I was small.

b&m, Wilko, pound-stretcher , pound shop, the range, all have them. You can also get them on eBay and Amazon.

We had these back in the 80s and was going to get some last year but never got round to it. I’m particularly hankering after a foil star we had which I loved. It was cerise pink, turquoise and gold but can’t find one with those colours anywhere.

Also agree that tinsel just doesn’t “smell” the same as it did back then. That truly was the smell of Christmas!

Forgot to add Asda and Tesco also had them last year so May have them again this year.

Does anyone else get the smell 'memory' whenever they see pictures of these decorations too?!

I thought the exact same thing! The smell I remember so well.

We had these in the 70s brings me right back we also had a silver small Christmas tree and the smell very nostalgic

80's child here too!
The smell takes me right back.

I have permanent small white hooks fixed into the ceiling normally used for tasteful white fold out paper stars but feeling foil this year after reading this thread.

Plenty here: www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=foil+christmas+decorations+ceiling&crid=2QXGWL1EGH3NA&sprefix=Foil+chr%2Caps%2C70&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_8

I may have to get some, purely for the nostalgia. I have memories of holding the ladder for my dad while he pinned these up every year. We did corner to opposite corner with a big old naff star hanging off the bottom of the light fitting in the middle!

I have the brightly coloured paper ones, I do they every year but have never meant anyone else that has them!

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 12/11/2022 21:36

Thanks everyone! I guess there's no alternative and I'll have to find some - I'm in the south West too so may nip to proper job 😁 I ado like a paper chain though and I saw a crochet paper chain today so im tempted.. if I start now will be done by Christmas...2030.

I measured as I need the decoration to go from the room corner to the middle lamp, this is about 2.5m, and of course needs so 'drape' room in there too, a lot of decorations I find aren't that long. So I need eight of 3m each to decorate both ends of the living room! It's a ridiculous room.
