Couples Christmas (with 2 dogs)

We’ve had a change of plan over Christmas time now and it will just be the two of us, we won’t be seeing any family. We will have 2 dogs.

My husband is working in between Christmas and New Year and will be on call out over Christmas (we don’t have the rota yet), making it difficult at present to plan too much.

Amy suggestions as to what we can do to make it special without seeing family, or being able to go away anywhere.

Thank you!

Depending on the weather a long walk and a Christmas themed picnic.
Perhaps not so great if your in a city.

Lovely long dog walks - to places you and they haven't been.

Films, great food of your choosing. Lashings of sex 😉

Choose traditions you want to continue, create new ones, do nothing, do everything. Christmas is your oyster.

posh, leisurely breakfast i.e. salmon, scrambled eggs, croissants, posh raspberry jam, nice coffee (if any of those things suit you) put some champagne in your orange juice and start the day sloshed ?

open some presents, scrunch up the used wrapping paper for the dogs to chase ?

savoury snacks and champagne.

More presents ?

Go for a walk with the dogs ? Go to the pub with the dogs ?

Come home prepare lunch. Eat lunch.

Play board games/crash out on the sofa/play with the dogs

Eat chocolate. Drink cream liqueurs.

Watch t.v.

Prepare and eat tea.

More telly.

The two of us have been on our own with the dogs for the last two years due to covid. In the main we did much the same as we would have done if we were hosting.

We Facetimed with DD a few tines during the day. Dinner was the same as usual but scaled back slightly and was plated up in the kitchen rather than at the table. TV was watched slightly more than it would usually have been as we watched a film in the afternoon. Everything else was done at a similar time as it would usually have been done.

it is not clear as to what being on call would mean for yourselves and if that involves having to go out, or if going out would be for a significant period of time. You may want to consider how that impacts on eating and adjust your menu and timings accordingly. Perhaps opting to eat something which does’t take too long to cook or something which can just be heated up quickly. Is it better to eat on a lunchtime or later in the day.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

Hopefully 6 weeks today being Boxing Day we’re
not already wishing for Christmas 2023 and have had a lovely couple of days just the two of us.

So we have had my husband’s rota and he’s on call on Christmas Day.. this will mean he has to stay at home and by the phone / cannot drink ready to go out if required.

Think this may mean we either, have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, and leftovers on Christmas Day, or have picky food / buffet on Christmas Day and then a Christmas dinner on Boxing Day.

Theres a chance I could be on my own for several hours, so going to save my favourite films and get some nice goodies in just in case I am on my own.

Any other tips or suggestions?

That sounds like heaven

Well you’ve got to have your Christmas dinner at some point so do what works best for you.if you get everything in you could decide closer to the day depending on how busy you’ve been leading up to it.
