Tips for Lapland UK

Hi All

We're going to Lapland UK for the first time this December with my 9 and 6 year old and I am very VERY excited.

If you've been before please can you share any hints and tips?

I'm also thinking of booking into a hotel on the evening as our session isn't until 4pm - so any recommendations of good hotels close by appreciated!

Lucy

Sorry I am not helping but can I ask when you bought your tickets and any tips for securing them? We are hoping to book for next year

Hi @slipperypenguin - sure - I bought them back in April. They had a release date and they opened at midday. Rather than being first come first served everyone was allocated a random position in the queue at 12 (in other words whether you'd been logged on since 10am or 11.59am didnt make a difference).

The queuing took FOREVER but booking was then fairly straightforward. Its eye wateringly expensive(!) but I have a feeling this year will be my eldest's last as a believer so I wanted to make it extra special if I could.

Thanks so much for the hesdsup. Do you mind giving a rough idea of how much it is? 😬

bootswiththefur · 02/11/2022 21:36

They vary depending on the dates - I think some of the earlier dates in November start at around £69 per person - we're going in December and it was £109 pp from memory! (I KNOW I MUST BE MAD - in my defence there wasnt a cost of living crisis when I booked it!)

Also going for the 1st (and only!) time this December, so following with interest!

We went last December and it was wonderful. For a Saturday, we paid £135 each. Then there was also a hefty booking fee of £10 for EACH ticket (so an additional £40 in booking fees), then another £5 for postage, which seemed very cheeky!!

The invite box is lovely! I popped it into the freezer for an hour so it was cold before leaving it on our doormat for DCs to find the morning before we went.

The experience on the day was wonderful. The snow covered trees and the quality of the costumes was fantastic. It actually felt much colder in “Lapland”!!

We enjoyed all of the activities and then the time in the elf village was sweet. I gave our DC £25 of Jingles each to spend in the shops…it didn’t go far 😂 They each bought a Christmas decoration each and some sweets.

We bought sausage baps from an outside stall and hot drinks as a snack. I think that came to £40ish.

We all enjoyed ice skating, which was really well run. There was no queue for skates and the rink was big and not too busy.

Father Christmas was outstanding!! We’ve seen many great Santas over the years, but this one was the REAL FC!! He was sweet, kind, funny and very natural with the info I’d provided to the elves ahead of time.

The quality of the husky toy he gave them was excellent. I love the family photo we got too (1 copy included in the price). Just be aware that you spend quite a long time chatting to Father Christmas and then there’s only time for 1 or 2 snaps 📸 at the end, so make sure everyone is looking at the camera lol.

When I collected our photo at the end shop, I was handed a bag containing another soft toy to leave out from FC on Christmas Eve. DC didn’t notice this, so the staff are well practised at being discrete. It included a cute thank you note from FC for all of DCs’ help at the toy factory. Again, the toy Teddy was very good quality.

I kept all of the little invite letters, passports, stationary from the elf post office, thank you notes etc in the original
invite box as a lovely memory.

I’m planning to book again for next December. It’s very expensive, but an excellent experience all round. There wasn’t one thing I’d change.

Hope you all have an amazing time 🌟

P.s. I forgot to add that I bought the story of FC book on eBay before we went. It sets up the story nicely about the elves and origin of Father Christmas. I’m glad I did that and we’d read it a few times in the weeks ahead of our visit.

Where are you travelling from.
Windsor would probably be your best bet for somewhere lovely to stay.

What's the budget though?

It's absolutely wonderful and you do feel like you're going somewhere different.

If you're on Facebook join the group called Lapland UK Fan Chat, they will have the answers to all your questions (and lots more you hadn't even thought of!) We're going for the first time this year too.. so excited!

Join the Lapland U.K. fan chat, loads of tips on there. I would recommend the premier inn Bracknell central. It’s less than 10mins in the car, so nice and easy. Download the wishing glass app for photo frames when taking pictures aswell as a story of Father Christmas and the elves being read out. I played it the night before we went.x

I’m local and went with my 2 a couple of years ago.
it all runs really smoothly. No tips as such.. it’s just a brilliant experience and worth every penny!
coppid Beech hotel is approx 5 miles away. A nice option for families x

We loved it. Very expensive, but very well organised, and a real experience.
Only two gripes: the ice skating area was very busy and the skate/shoe change bit was wet, you couldn't avoid getting your socks wet. I wish I'd taken spare socks.
There is also nowhere to warm up, and no heating anywhere (understandably), except a few tables in the food area. We went when it was very cold and going into the shop thing was nice just to defrost for a bit! Wrap up if it's going to be cold.
Have fun :)

Stirrups Hotel is really really lovely and not far at all. Look at Bracknell for premier Inn/travelodge if you want more of a bargain type hotel
