She is not particualrly into fairies etc... but loves to make 'inventions' and things with moveable pieces?

Depending on budget, one of the 3 in 1s like the tiger, lion/warthog. Or something technic?

pastabakeonaplate · 02/11/2022 12:29

The technic stuff is great for that

CakeCrumbs44 · 02/11/2022 12:32

Just a big box of pieces and she can use her imagination to make her own inventions, rather than follow the instructions. You can also get books of ideas which she can work off.

Asda have this huge box on sale for £25 or £20 if you have a rewards card, which I'm getting for my 5 year old.

They do one with various wheels in which is quite cool. www.lego.com/en-gb/product/bricks-and-wheels-11014

Yes wheels are good

I think Knex and Gears Gears Gears is more suited to freestyle building with moving pieces.

Klutz have a set called
something like ‘more tricks for your bricks’ which has lots of pieces and ideas for creating moving Lego gadgets.

Needmorelego · 02/11/2022 16:41

This is a good one as a starter set.

I'd get a baseplate to go with it. It's boring but really helpful.

Needmorelego · 02/11/2022 16:47

Yes as @pastabakeonaplate said - get a baseplate !!

Klutz books are great - Chain reactions, Lego gadgets. You usually get the bricks you need included with the book.

My kids love the Super Mario sets but they are a bit pricey as you need a starter set, but often they are on some sort of offer. They're interactive and you don't need to play with a phone app (that's an option) although annoyingly the instructions for those are on the app rather than on paper...

Seconding the 3-in-one sets, my kids go back to those again and again.

Thank you everyone!

My 7 year daughter loves the ninjargo and Harry Potter Lego sets.

LouLou198 · 02/11/2022 19:37

Oh and Lego dots are good too.

PeekAtYou · 02/11/2022 19:37

She'd probably enjoy a mini figure or two in her stocking. They cost £££ sealed but I bet that you could get a used bundle very reasonably.

Totally agree with buying a base plate and wheels as well as a set.
