Just curious what others are planning! She was far more interested in Halloween than I expected so I'm actually kind of excited now because I think she'll be at least a little aware of the holiday!

Santa is getting her a play kitchen and we're getting her a doll bed, a sesame street puppet and a couple interactive books. She'll have a stocking with an orange and crayons or something as well.

For traditions I'm looking forward to choral Christmas music (Vienna boys choir is my favorite) and Nat King Cole, the snowman (David Bowie intro of course), and making cookies. MAYBE family pajamas if i can get my act together and figure some out. Fingers crossed for a white Christmas but we usually don't get serious snow till February or March, so probably no sledding! A fancy Christmas eve dinner, and brunch on Christmas day... I can't wait!

At that age, my dd helped decorate the tree - she quickly learnt how to change the way the lights flashed on the tree and was constantly changing them, so be warned!
I took her to watch a nativity service and she wanted to join in with the other children up the front, which was cute!
She loved making and decorating gingerbread men (using the cookie cutter and sticking on the smarties were her favourite bits!).
It was also the first year that we put out milk, a mince pie and a carrot for FC and his reindeer.

Baker Ross do some lovely little Christmas crafts that a 2yo could do. I bought my DD some Christmas paint stamps which she still loves, and they had elf faces, gingerbread men decorating etc. Lots of baking! Go and see some Christmas lights.

Following! My twins are 2 and it's so much more exciting this year. We will go to see Father Christmas at a garden centre near us, they usually have lots of pretty things to look at too including a barn of life-sized singing reindeer!

I'm weighing up what to do about a Christmas tree, we may stick with our little artificial one on a sideboard like last year for now, as toddlers and Christmas trees don't mix well... But I also like the idea of going to a tree farm and starting a tradition of choosing a real one. I also plan to take them to choose a new tree decoration each every year. Ooh I'm so excited 😁

I would advise getting the kitchen and the dolls stuff set up before hand.

When I got my daughter a pram, doll and clothes box, every clothes item had 4 tags holding it down! It literally took half an hour to remove them all and the doll was held down by numerous cable ties, and the pram took a while to assemble too!!

Taking all that time christmas day will be so frustrating to a small child!!

We also built the play kitchen and covered it in a cloth and paper streamers, made for an impressive first look at the living room christmas day!

Winter wonderland at Snowdome for their xmas village and to play in the snow.
baking
wrapping presents together
we’ll go to see father xmas at a local grotto that he loved last year.

These are such sweet ideas! I can't remember the last time holidays felt so magical. Love the idea of having her help with the tree and Christmas crafts. Streamers and a bow on the kitchen will make it lovely! I plan to assemble everything in the basement and sneak it up during the night. I've thought about streaming the local performance of the nutcracker but I'm guessing she'll be too young to really appreciate that.

My two love just walking round the local houses looking at lights. Last year she liked going the same route a few times and looking forward to the houses where she knew the cool lights were.

Two was the first age my son “understood” Christmas l ( as much as a two year old can )! It was only last year and it was honestly the best Christmas of my life ! Enjoy it !!

My DS was just 2 last Christmas. He just started to understand the idea of it.

The best moments were:

  1. taking him to the local garden centre. They had giant singing penguins if you pressed a button. I had to drag him away he loved them so much

  2. going go visit Santa at the same garden centre

  3. going to the Lanterns at Chester Zoo. If you're in the North West it's really not to be missed. But if not see if you can find a local light trail.

  4. On christmas eve we did a christmas eve box and he was running round high as a kite wearing his matching PJ'S and waving a stuffed elf around. He had no clue what was happening but got caught up in the general excitement. It was soooo lovely to watch.

  5. first year we left a stocking on the end of his bed and wrapped gift at the end of his bed. He came running into our room shouting "OPEN!!!". It was so cute.

On the other hand, he had zero interest in Christmas crafts, baking or watching Christmas films. We had several tantrums on Christmas Day. Manage your expectations!!
