Hi Mumsnetters, my nephew is almost one and I am stumped for his Christmas present. His parents have been vague, nothing they really want/ nothing they really don't want for him. Max spends around £50/£60, why recommendations appreciated 😀

-A little tikes red and yellow car
-A scuttlebug/ funky ride on toy

  • A slide for the garden
  • Wooden train set- like brio but a cheaper version is something he'll grow in to (and his parents can add too
A wooden play kitchen- ikea do good ones- asda do cheaper ones

£50 is a big budget for a 1 year old- but id prefer 1 big ticket item than lots of plastic tat

Thank you, I agree I'd rather buy him one decent item that he'll get use out of. I'll run it by his parents and see if they have a preference they have lots of outdoor space so some of your ideas are really handy.

I think those wooden activity cubes are really nice, my daughter still loves hers at 2. They are study enough for them to practice standing on and aesthetically pleasing! I also think you can never go wrong with bath toys, kids just love them so much. They even have crinkly books for the bath!

I gift a Steiff teddy for my relatives around that age and I’ll add a storybook with teddies in.

Buying almost 1 year old niece magformers.

We were given when Ds was newborn so they were in the house a while before he used, but they are really safe from any age. Ds is now 2.5 and has been using for ages. The magnet tiles alone I often take travelling or to restaurants

My DS1 is getting a wheelybug

Scuttlebug is a good one, my two boys love it!

Electric ride on cars from Aldi/ Lidl, they normally have before Christmas were a great hit in our household too, they use it indoors

We found a cardboard slide on Amazon, which lasted about a year (we didn't expect that it would last that long tbh!) But both boys (1 and 3) absolutely loved it, couldn't get enough of it and it folds down so easy to store.

We got trunkie suitcase for our older for his 1st birthday, although it's not used very often, it's a nice thing to have.

A scooter.

Outdoor climbing frame with a slide/swing if they have big enough big garden.

Tipi tent for his bedroom.

I’d give a nice book for when he is older. He will get lots of presents and only want to play with cardboard boxes and wrapping paper.

At 1 my boy was just getting into role play and loving organising things so something like a toy kitchen or shop would be great. He also loved books and we got him a scuttle big bike and a set of balls (like a small football, rugby, basketball) which he is still obsessed with but I don't think most children are quite as ball centric as ours!

By 18 months he was quite into magnet tiles and we will be buying him more for Xmas when he will be 2.5yo to add to what he's got.

A nice set of wooden blocks in a trolley would go down well as they get more competent over time with building things.
