Hi. Hubby is making me a hamper for Christmas this year. I’m allergic to dairy but would love some recommendations for cheeses from companies or shops that are good please. Thank you!

Violife Epic Mature. And their cream cheese is good.

I have 2 dairy allergic DCs and we like Sheeze garlic and herb cream cheese

Applewood

latelydaydreams · 29/10/2022 05:27

Mozzarizzela. Applewood.

Razzle5 · 29/10/2022 06:09

Presumably he should be researching this? Or is the plan for you to tell him what you want to see in the hamper?!

PokemonPasta · 29/10/2022 07:27

Either make your own hamper or leave him to it. If you have to draft him along showing him how to be thoughtful at every step it doesn't really count

The kinda co cheese company is a million miles better than any vegan cheese you'll get at a supermarket like applewood or violife. Their farmhouse one is my favourite, it not cheap but worth it at Christmas.

Also checking out the fauxmangerie for other vegan boutique cheeses.

Cathedral city is probably the best dairy free cheddar I've had. I also like garlic and herb boursin. Neither are particularly fancy but dairy free cheeses are expensive enough!

Thank you for all of the recommendations. I do really like Applewood, that’s what I use at home usually. There’s some nice ideas to try here also, not even just for Christmas 😂

I'm really picky with cheeses so if I leave hubby to it I probably won’t like it. He will try but considering it’s going to be a bit pricey I don’t want to waste money.

So you’re going to buy, try, see if you like and then tell him what you want to see in your hamper? 😂

My daughter was allergic to dairy and we all started eating violife, the best supermarket option I could find. I think it works really well melted.

We also ate a dairy free cream cheese with garlic and herb, sainsburys own, which was also nice.

Asher33 · 29/10/2022 11:48

Sheese is the only half decent one I've found

WitchyOsmansXraySpectre · 29/10/2022 11:49

Also checking out the fauxmangerie for other vegan boutique cheeses.

These cheeses are as similar to real cheese as I have tasted, although they are softer in texture. Expensive though.

LunaCrystal · 29/10/2022 13:37

Fauxmangerie was one I had been thinking of trying. We’re in London so can pop by to try before we buy apparently which is perfect!

The supermarket ones I’m going to try also as used to love cream cheese etc before I became allergic.

Honestly I’ve been meaning to find some cheeses I like for years, I’ve just never prioritised doing so. But now is the perfect excuse. All in the name of research 😂

Does anyone else have any recommendations please?

Thank you

Haven't tried it myself yet but a friend has just recommended these to me.

Ihavedogs · 30/10/2022 07:12

Mass produced: violife epic mature, cathedral city and Philadelphia
Nut based cheeses: Tyne chease, Kinda Co and I’m Nut OK.
