Christmas Day alternative lunch suggestions

Just DP and I for Christmas Day lunch, what would you have to eat? Or if you already do an alternative to the traditional dinner, what do you have?

We'll probably have bacon rolls or smoked salmon bagels for breakfast and will have had a buffet lunch on Christmas Eve with family. I'm not keen on slaving away at the oven for hours but don't mind an hour or so. Not bothered about roasts or traditional casseroles.

Thanks for any ideas!

If it were just me & DH I would have lovely M&S picky bits -maybe do lobster Thermidor or grilled garlic king prawns
If we didn't want to even turn the oven on I woukd get a chi by see or Indian takeaway plus lots of yummy wine or champagne

Cheese for evening
And more drinks

I would have tartiflette, I think of it as a real treat but easier to cook than a full roast and you can prep in advance.

We have a cheeseboard & a running buffet! 🤣
Just the 2 of us!

Poached salmon with hollandaise sauce, broccoli and boiled potatoes. Then salad. Then cheese.

I got a fish kettle from a charity shop for £3 for a large salmon (served 10) but before that had just curled one round in a big cast iron pot to poach. It stays curled and looks pretty! For two people I'd just get fillets.

My daughter is the head cook in our house. Her partner and I would need to abduct her, put her in a body bag and store her in the patio in order to cook Xmas diner. And even then, I wouldn't put it past her to.get out.

last year, we had three different meals. Daughter had a mushroom thing, I had salmon, daughters partner had steak. Daughter said it was easier to cook than a gargantuan roast dinner.her

How about this? a Christmas walk with a packed lunch - a festive alternative to sausage rolls - can be made in advance to be cooked or cooked and eaten cold.

Turkey sausages. Take the skins off. Puff pastry. Put turkey meat in. Put dollop of cranberry sauce on top. Wrap puff pastry around. Score pastry. Cook in oven.

We always had our Christmas dinner on Boxing Day so as kids got to choose any meal we liked for Christmas Day as long as it came out of the freezer and straight in the oven! (Eg pizza and chips!) Then when we got older and seemingly more sophisticated we adapted this to tuna steak and chips - Aldo Zilli has a recipe for a nice citrus/chilli crumb so it’s a bit more special than average fish and chips but still very little cooking time and effort. Highly recommend!

For the last few years we have had a bbq lunch on Christmas Day. Posh burgers and lots of salad plus halloumi for me ( veggie)

I've actually just decided to do this on Christmas day: eatgame.co.uk/roast-saddle-of-venison-with-fruity-stuffing/

I did it a couple of years ago, and it's amazing.

We are also just a two this Christmas and I'm rather looking forward to it! We may have beef Wellington with dauphinoise potatoes and green beans or (my preference) home made pizza cooked in the outdoor pizza oven. 😁

Bacon butties for breakfast or possibly eggs Benedict. Lots of booze, lots of cheese/chocolate /mince pies later 🍾 🥂

I have just watched jamie Oliver make a turkey wellington and the turkey was stuffed with cranberry jelly. It looked really good.

I think we're going for curry with some sides. Not sure whether to order from the takeaway on Christmas Eve and pop it in the fridge (not rice) and reheat or to buy one of those kits from the supermarket. We're now hosting 3 times over the Christmas period so if I don't have to cook from scratch, it'll save a lot of hassle

Have a scoot around, there are actually some curry houses around here that are opening Christmas day!

Really rich beef and ale casserole, cooked overnight in a Wonderbag overnight. Literally cook bring all the ingredients to the boil, then put in the Wonderbag. Come midday on Christmas Day and it will be perfectly cooked and piping hot, at ZERO cost.when we want to eat, just take some pre made cobblers/dumplings out of the fridge, and stick the stockpot to let the cobblers cook. Served with frozen spiced red cabbage and apple (M&S) that takes 5 mins in the microwave. Total time in the kitchen on a Christmas Day ? About 20 minutes :-)
