Arts & crafts gifts for 8 year olds

I have two girls to buy for (not siblings so no joint gift) and both love doing arts & crafts. For a budget of £10-20 each what is popular with girls?

They both have all the usual craft supplies so I was thinking more more along the lines of Spirograph perhaps etc.

My Dd8 likes the 'Sew your own cushion' or whatever at Hobbycraft.

Posca pens
Top model books
Polymer clay

The Kumi Kreator friendship bracelet maker is now £20 on Amazon and is very much along the lines of a Spirograph

My daughter is 8 and has got into sewing, Wilko had a great embroidery ring with Christmas patterns (£3) Hobbycraft also had Christmas themed cross stitch.

Justguessing · 24/10/2022 11:57

Spirograph went down well with my 8 year old.

Posca Pens and Top Model stuff as recommended by Stompythedinosaur are also good options.

Klutz books too - the watercolour ones have been well received in the past but there's loads to choose from on Amazon (the prices tend to fluctuate so worth holding off until there's a bit of a discount).

Look up Bright Minds and/or Baker Ross Good stuff and original ideas for children

The recent fave was a box of different coloured clay that came with badge backs, keyrings and things. Don't know the brand.

When DS was that age (I know you are asking for girls, but he isn’t remotely alpha) he liked:

‘paint your own’ plaster of Paris models from hobbycraft. If you’re selective, they’re not at all babyish. I can see that they have a seahorse and things like that. Only £4 or so each

shrinkles - I had them as a kid but they’re better now. Colour with coloured pencils and then bake in the oven. They come with boys toys ti make them into jewellery, keyring etc

More grown uk sticker mosaic books

colour in stainless glass type sheets

oil based pastels

Hama Beads are a lot of fun and come in boxed sets with everything you need for a few designs. (Or big bags and plain boards.)

Runningnewbie · 28/10/2022 19:37

Following this thread for ideas for me 3 dd’s!

WellTidy · 28/10/2022 20:58

Aqua beads are good. Unlike Hama beads, which need an adult to seal them with an iron, kids can spray the water to seal the aquabeads.

Galt Toys does a my first pottery box set. If you buy more wet clay, you get loads of play value.

Also - collect stones, and then draw on them with posca pens and seal them with clear varnish. I think posca pens were on offer in rymans a few weeks ago, they may still be.

OrangePomander · 28/10/2022 21:00

The make your own insect house or bird feeder kits went down well here.

Elmo230885 · 28/10/2022 21:02

The Range have lots of different craft kits. What about diamond painting kits, I got a small canvas one for my DD fir about £4. I think it's a flamingo.

Mossstitch · 28/10/2022 21:50

I have a friend's daughters about this age that I buy birthday/Christmas presents for and find craft stuff best as I don't know what they already have so I'm not duplicating. It always goes down well.

I usually get a few smaller items from hobbycraft so they have a selection. Recent hits were the paint your own jewellery boxes (they have lots of these in other things such as moneyboxes, plant pots and often have them on offer half price or 3 for price of 2), foam mosaic stick on pictures which they have had a few of and ideal for travelling or keeping them quietly occupied with no mess😂 colour in proper canvases, velvet art kits (saw some Christmas decoration kits in The Range of these), make your own bracelets, wooden spoon fairies and finger puppet kits, paper dolls that you create and colour in the clothes.......... Basically I love a trip to hobbycraft, all the things I would have liked as a kid in one place😍
