Gaming Pc help

I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about gaming pc’s or pc bundles?
Dd3 loves gaming, anime, cosplay etc and she’s easy to buy for so this is just an idea at present.
She does have a macbook, but it’s limited to what games she can play on there. So I started looking at gaming pcs but I’m completely overwhelmed.
I read somewhere that a lot of the time you’re paying for a name/pretty colours and not necessarily the specs, is this true? And what specs should I be looking at?
Many thanks in advance!

I bought mine one of the gaming bundles from Costco. Around £600-700. Runs Fortnite / other games fine. Just bought a cheaper version £500 for my daughter.

Agree the spec is v confusing! I know my brother paid twice as much for one from another company.

Thanks for the reply midgey, Costco isn’t a place I had thought of so will make sure to check there, my eldest has a card luckily.
I had a wee google and the first one that came up was 5k, my eyes about popped out of my head! I’d be willing to go to around £1k ish for a bundle but don’t want to spend for the sake of it if I can get the same thing cheaper, she is probably enamoured by the pretty set ups she’s seen on TikTok and the likes though so don’t know if that makes a difference!

Generally speaking prebuilt 'gaming' desktops are always a bit of a con when you compare the retail price to that of the components inside them. You'll get far better value for money buying the components individually and having someone who knows what they are doing build the PC. It's not a complicated job, it should take no more than an hour or two to install the hardware inside a case and install an operating system, but its still not a job for anyone who doesn't have a basic understanding of what they are doing because it's easy to damage the parts if you are unfamiliar with them.

If you know someone who builds PC's, especially a gamer who is up on the latest hardware, then I'd seriously recommend talking to them about building one from components. I can't give a recommendation for prebuilt sales because it's not something I've ever used because of the exorbitant cost compared to building my own.

Depends what games she wants to play, a decent enough normal PC would run most things and she could just upgrade bits when she's more into it. Yes the pretty cases are an expensive gimmick, but so pretty...
DS built his and has kept upgrading bits when he can afford to. He's also built PCs for his friends who buy the parts and he puts it together (for fun).

Thank you all so much this is fab advice!
Ive heard people talking about building pc’s but sounds double dutch to me! I wonder if that’s something she’d be interested in doing herself with help?

I’ll check out everything listed here and have a look, and the links too thanks so much!
I don’t know fully what games she’s after, but she’s mentioned Genshin impact, final fantasy, world of Warcraft etc, most fantasy types I think.

Have a look at scan.co.uk - reputable computer place, they offer some 'pre built' packages (that can be tailored) for all prices ranges and it's usually quite clear what their can or can't run. We bought a mid range from here a couple of years ago and it's still going strong and is made in such a way different components can be upgraded as needed (and DH tailored our order to suit what we needed). Bear in mind you only usually get the actual PC unit so would still need monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, windows /Microsoft license etc.

DS is very into gaming, he had his custom built by a company called PC Specialist, his is around 5years old. Still working fine, he also bought a gaming monitor that was quite expensive from what I remember, but that’s also still working fine, both have had a lot of use.
