Have heard these are fantastic? Anybody bought and are they worth the money? A bit stumped re types as looks like some paint, some more felt tips and different nip sizes? Your recommendations would be much appreciated. (two very creative daughters aged 12 and 14)

Following! My dd1 is 12 and absolute loves drawing

Canofpeas · 14/10/2022 13:10

The pens are good fun. I bought PC-3M (recommended mid size nib for beginners) and PC-1MR. They were recently on offer from Hobbycraft ...maybe on offer again before Christmas.

This video was helpful for me to understand which nibs to pick.

There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to get the best out of the pens. They would work well with acrylic paints for doing details and outlines.

The nibs are really tough and designed for fabric, stones, cardboard. So, using them on paper you'll get some piling.

@Canofpeas thank you so much

Following as dd9 has asked for some for Christmas!

ColeensBoot · 14/10/2022 13:26

Rymans sells the whole range, if you wanting to avoid Amazon.

They are great pens

Ponderingwindow · 14/10/2022 13:33

My dd got a set for her 12yo Christmas.

They seem to work well with her spiral bound mixed media art paper pads. I tend to get her the blue canson ones, but I will buy whatever is on sale if she doesn’t make a specific request.

As with all markers, store flat for longest life. So no keeping them in cups. She keeps her Posca in a large plastic pencil box.

I work in an Art Department in a school and make all our orders. POSCA pens are absolutely by far the most popular thing the students use! The quality is brilliant, they’re great for traditional art but also for crafts like onto glass or different surfaces like for handmade gifts too. They are very pricey, but very worth it!

if it’s for drawing specifically, there’s a cheaper brand called Ohuhu, they are a slightly cheaper version of POSCA pens, and are better for more traditional art (such as on paper). If the budget is there however I’d fully recommend POSCA 😊

thank you @exne I'm assuming unglazed ceramic items work best for decorating? My daughter has just started her GCSE art course and is obsessed with these hence the interest for Christmas present

@Emmmmz9 you're welcome! I’d say so yes, since glaze is an extra coat which is easier to chip or wash off so unglazed should do great 😊 hope she enjoys GCSE Art! There’s nothing better than seeing the students keen enough to make art at home!

If she likes that kind of thing then take a look at pebeo. They are gorgeous paint on anything type paints. But not in pen form.

LegoLady95 · 14/10/2022 15:49

We make our own wine and use Posca pens to write on the bottles - it is my favourite bit, the pens are fab!

I got my dd10 posca pens last year whilst they are amazing for all things arty, they have cost me about 10x the original cost in replacing so many school jumpers/polo's, bedding and a bedroom carpet. DD is really arty and loves them but shes a little clumsy and I've tried everything but cannot get it out. I would say don't buy these for under 12, unless you have an art room.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 22:55

Op be very careful where you buy. We got one of these fancy brand's on Amazon and they were a knock off

mamaduckbone · 14/10/2022 22:55

Yes I would thoroughly recommend- ds13 has loads. The colours are amazing

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 22:56

Ginger!

Why did you have to replace all that stuff?.
What does it matter if a sheet is clean but has a mark on it? Bedroom carpets?

Sounds really extreme to me.

My dd loves to create canvases, would posca work on canvas? And if so Which type?

Poscas work beautifully on canvas. The only difference is Posca types is the size of the nib - you go from the teeny tiny fineliner tip in a 1mr to the largest at 5m. 3m is smack bang in the middle and a great size for most things but if you need to cover a large area then 5m or the brush tips will be best.

Serena1977 · 15/10/2022 12:07

I've bought some for dd almost 11 for Christmas and a bag of stones from hobbycraft.

pinklemonade84 · 15/10/2022 12:38

I've ordered a set of the pastel ones for dd with a black paper sketchbook. I'm so tempted to order her the sparkle ones too 🤩

Mysa74 · 15/10/2022 12:46

Posca pens are really popular with rockers-a whole community of people who paint pictures on pebbles and leave them in random places for other people to find. "Love on the rocks" is quite a big group on Facebook and often post discount codes to buy the pens direct from posca. They also do amazing rock group tutorials showing people who to do a particular design step by step. You can even rewatch previous week's tutorials. It's great fun, your older kids would love it too Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/10/2022 12:54

Lots of people use Posca for rock art but also Tooli art pens, I don't know what the price difference is.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 15/10/2022 15:45

@RatSlave
Thank you!

Ryaman seemed to have a good deal on today so we got some, I'm not entirely sure of nib width though!
