Any experience with toniebox, yoto or similar audio player thing?

DS will only be 20 months at Xmas so will be more interested in music that stories at first.

Recommendations much appreciated, thanks.

My vote is for the yoto with adventure jacket and screen protector. If you are afraid of losing the cards, then you can put them around a key ring with stick on labels. A yoto provides far more superior entertainment and learning than a tonie box does. My little one loves the night time sleep radio and the classical music cards. The timers are very helpful too. Listening to yoto daily is a good start to the day.

If you are interested, here is a 10% off code (Minimum spend of £59.99) prz.io/KOLe5GvtY

My friend had both and much prefers the Yoto. The biggest annoyance with the Tonnie is that the story doesn't pick up where you left off and the figures would be easy for a little one to pull out and therefore stop the story. I'm going with a Yoto mini for my 5yr old. I have a referral code that will give you 10% off if you buy through Yoto. You also earn tokens through purchasing which gives you money off future purchases! prz.io/oq3edopfA

Yoto seems to be the winner!

Is there any real advantage to getting the original one over the mini?

Other than the charging dock and nightlight I can’t see that it does anything more than the mini?

I'm going with mini as I think being portable outweighs a nightlight for us (5yr old loves pitch black dark anyway 😂)

That’s what I thought too, just wondering if I’m missing something obvious.

Minis are sold out currently though… assuming they’ll be back before Xmas.

No, other than what you have mentioned (night light & charging dock) there is no major advantage- a bigger screen and probably easier for a toddler to handle and easier for you to spot. A yoto mini can be easily misplaced 😊

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 03/11/2022 12:19

We have both. With the phonics cards the letters are a little small to trace on the screen so dd always asks ds to swap and use his. With Ds we use the nightlight as a grow clock as you can set it to go off at a set time so he can get up if it's off.

Crapbags · 03/11/2022 13:13

We have the yoto and I highly recommend it. One thing I didn’t realise that others may have, is that once you have the app you can play all the stories via your phone anywhere without needing to actually take the yoto player with you. So for example on long car journeys we play the stories through the Bluetooth car speakers. Or obviously any other Bluetooth speaker would work. Alexa’s etc.

You can also control the volume, turn on and off from your phone app too. I often turn it off via the app once I know DS is asleep rather than sneaking into the room and potentially waking him to turn it off😬

NameChange30 · 03/11/2022 17:25

As your DC is under 2 I would recommend the Yoto original, unless you tend to travel a lot and would like the mini for journeys (and using at your destination), but as PP said you can use the Yoto app on your phone for that.

People with minis say they tend to get misplaced especially with younger children - but one solution is to get a Tile to attach to it, which seems sensible!

to those posters who have given a referral link, how is it supposed to work? It doesn’t appear to give the 10% off? Thanks!

NameChange30 · 06/11/2022 21:05

This code should work LL-S80UBD5N

FatLadySang · 06/11/2022 21:48

Thanks, a friend sent me one, didn’t even know they had one!

AnnanAsh · 08/11/2022 11:56

LL-04QR0JHA, this code works for 10% off, if anyone wants one.

emmsyg · 10/11/2022 18:42

I’m not sure if this link is different, you do need a minimum spend of £59.99 though for 10% off

We got a Yoto when ours was 16m. Love it!! They easily put the cards in and it’s great as a night light. You can just play from the app when they’re having trouble falling asleep and the card has come out. Love the make your own cards as we recorded ourselves playing and singing nursery rhymes. They’re 18m now and are really getting into it, especially the ‘first words’. Highly recommend, thinking of asking the grandparents for a mini one for travelling as a Christmas present.

SalviaOfficinalis · 16/11/2022 19:18

Thanks for everyone’s help :)
I’ve bought the Yoto mini.

I highly recommend the yoto we’ve used it almost daily since we brought it last Xmas!

@LoveJK you can connect to the Yoto with Bluetooth so connect you phone. (Go into the app and turn on Bluetooth capability, then push yoto button (left one I think) until the Bluetooth symbol comes up, first time you get a code to link to new device then play audible.)

Do the buttons on the player allow you to switch tracks on your phone remotely? Or do you have to control what is played via your phone

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 11/12/2022 09:39

@Name1234321 if you're connecting by Bluetooth then no you have to do it from your phone. If you play a card through your yoto app you can change on the yoto.

UndertheCedartree · 11/12/2022 10:00

We have a Yoto and my 10 yo DD loves it. There is an amazing selection of cards stories, music, educational. Lots of pod casts and radio you can listen to as well as sounds for sleep/relaxation.

redjoker · 20/10/2022 11:31

Do you feel your Yoto gets in the way of storytime together? we read every night at bed, im worried the yoto would take away from this?

We still read in bed every night. Then DD snuggles down and we put on the Yoto for her to fall asleep to.
