Stockings for teens that don’t cost a fortune

In previous years we’ve done stockings for the kids that include the usual chocolate/ books/ silly food/ smellies / nice pants & socks coupled with a few more expensive presents. I’d say I normally spend at least about £100-£200 per child. Would like to bring the cost down to under £100. Anyone got any genius (cheap!) ideas for this age group (12-18)?

I try to put mostly consumable or usable stuff in dd's stocking, rather than novelty items.

Hairbrush
Lip balm
Body spray
phone charger cable
earrings
Nice pen
Hand cream
Chocolate or sweets
Costa or Starbucks gift card - always popular

EvelynBeatrice · 07/10/2022 12:28

Next perfume minis, tree decoration, TK Maxx often great for jewellery, perfume, designer brand shampoos, mug, gloves scarf, etc

mum2three48 · 07/10/2022 21:59

Last year everything I would put in the stocking was wrapped individually and labelled 1-24 and I gave them all their stocking on the 1st Dec instead of an advent calendar. They all absolutely loved it and because it was spread out over the month there was less waste. I included lots of American and Japanese candy and unusual drinks. Toiletries shaving stuff some stationary socks a mug hot chocolate and marshmallow toppers and some Xmas pjs

I fill mine with chocolate 😳 big Santa’s or chocolate coins then maybe a bit of make up or funky pens but mostly chocolate

caringcarer · 08/10/2022 00:50

@psuedocream3, most teens would prefer regular Pringle tub to mini version. My boys would laugh if they found mini version.

psuedocream3 · 08/10/2022 08:24

@caringcarer then it sounds like the perfect present if it makes them smile. A regular size stocking, a pringles tube would take up most of the space, save a small fortune on filing the rest :)

2pinkginsplease · 08/10/2022 08:33

Now my children are older I just put all the little gifts in the stocking, rather than buying specific stocking gifts like I did when they were small.

gogohmm · 08/10/2022 08:51

I do fluffy socks, this year we have bracelets (bought) made by an acquaintance, will get hair bands, lip balm, chocolates perhaps some gel pens.

I then get my girls £50 ish or so gifts and Dp's gets his girls gifts separately (stockings done jointly)

muchprefersummer · 08/10/2022 12:12

I'm try not to get wasteful presents anymore so do lots of edibles in stockings.
Chocolate coins even for teen DS
Chocolate Santa
Hot chocolate pouches
Tubes of sweets
Gob stoppers
Hot choc stirrers
Toiletries
This year I'm going to put a razor into DS stocking - I don't think it will be long till he starts shaving.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 08/10/2022 14:05

I hate buying tat for the sake of a stocking so I dont put loads in them (the stockings are fairly small and narrow anyway so not much fits in them).

I tend to buy things like chocolate santas, this year I have giant chocolate coins. Also fluffy socks, when the kids were little they liked those little blind bags, or small lego set and they had the bonus of keeping them occupied until it was a more human hour to get up 😁

Will get some nice pens for them this year, but otherwise will stick to edibles.

Cantthinkofabettername · 08/10/2022 19:59

We always have 10 things in stockings - usually some food bits and pieces such as favourite crisps and sweets, lynx deodorant set, hot chocolate sachets, fluffy socks, pens etc. The (teenage) kids love their stockings.

saladfingers · 17/09/2023 17:11

I know this is an old thread, but there are some lovely ideas here for my teens. Last year at B&M they had mini tubes of Pringles in a selection box.

OMGitsnotgood · 18/09/2023 15:15

My DC are young adults and were horrified when I suggested we stop with stocking - it wouldn't be Christmas without them, apparently! But I don't spend loads on them whilst trying to avoid tack.

It might help with suggestions if we knew age and gender.

reluctantbrit · 18/09/2023 21:02

I just add whatever small gifts DD gets and they are in the stocking. Can be anything from fluffy socks to perfume, a book, T-shirt or her favourite body butter.

I don't buy extra stocking fillers.

Saz12 · 18/09/2023 22:38

In ours, stickings go on end of the bed and are long knotted walking socks (adukt sized!), so are for nuce little treats rather than The Big Gift. I try and keep to things that arent 5-minute-wonders whilst sticking to a fairly small budget...
Sweeties
Chocolate (coins & orange)
New toothbrush (started as a tot with a character one, now just a normal one for tradition!)
Can of unusual fizzy drink - usually from tkmaxx or Chinese supermarket
Fluffy socks
Puzzle book, or a magazine
The above are all reasonably bulky, inexpensive, and enjoyed!

Then the endless possibilities for things - I would usually add two or three of them, but much more becomes expensive and veers towards unappreciated crap:

Facemask, hair accessories, hair brush, lip balm, nail varnish, fancier shower gel, body spray, stationary, handbag mirror, rubicks small game or puzzle (eg rubicks cube, card games etc), string lights, handwarmers, cute plasters, cheap jewellery, worry dolls, etc.

Beautifulsunflowers · 20/09/2023 13:22

I love a stocking filler thread! @caringcarer has some good ideas for older teens/young men which is who I buy stocking items for.
There are always so many ideas that are for the girls!
Other ideas for stockings that aren’t edible
set of Allen keys
car freshener
mini torch
credit card sized multi tool
monopoly deal
uno flip

jaspertown · 20/09/2023 13:28

Sweets, chocolate orange and toiletries. Books and socks etc are wrapped and given as part of main present. Have massively cut down on buying novelty things for the sake of it.

Those beauty advent calendars are always on sale come January and they are brilliant for nice stocking bits for the following year, especially teens getting into using fancy things.

skyeisthelimit · 20/09/2023 13:44

DD is 15 now and I have told her I am cutting back on the stocking this year as it has always been a large sack full of stuff and she hasn't even touched half the bits I put in it last year. She isn't into makeup and jewellery, so this year I will put in

chocolate orange
mini tub of pringles
choc coins
scrunchies
hair brush/comb
notepads
headbands
toblerone
some sort of card game, varies each year, but things like Uno, Dobble etc
socks
book voucher
costa voucher
amazon voucher

I get everything from

Poundland
B & M
Home Bargains
Poundshop.com (online)
Primark

(I get the vouchers for free by using topcashback throughout the year).

She just loves that Christmas morning where she comes into my room and opens the stocking, even though she now knows that I already know what is in there Grin. At least I don't have to fake the surprise and excitement any more.

Ghostjail · 21/09/2023 00:01

DS
Some cleaning slime for his keyboards
A Swiss army card
Starbucks voucher
Olive picks and a jar of fancy olives
Tony Chocolonely chocolate
Bamboo hiking socks

DD
Paint brush pens
Small craft kits
Salt and vinegar pringles
Percy pig fizzy pigtails
Bamboo Hair Turban
Fancy hair oil
Funky chopsticks

CoffeeChocolateWine · 21/09/2023 09:44

My teen will be 15 this Christmas. I find increasingly I'm spending a bit more on 2 or 3 items to get something he will actually need and use...but then combine those with a few cheaper bits so it's still in budget. It's not clear from your OP whether you mean that £100 is just your stocking budget, or all in? I tend to spend about £50 on a stocking per child as I don't like tat.
