YorkieTheRabbit · 27/09/2022 15:43

As the title says, gifts for men. I’ve got three to buy for, ages 15, 38 and 66.
So far I’ve bought,
Whiskey, some edibles and L’occitaine shower gel for the oldest
Liz Earle shower gel and hot cloth cleanser and white chocolate for the 38 year old
15 year old has odd socks, some baking accessories as he like cooking

Beer advent calendar sounds like something she would enjoy.

@mam0918 what are blue gaming glasses? And would a 16 year old DS like them?

They are glasses with a blue tint, it supposed reduces eye fatigue, migraines, glare from lights on screen and protect eyesight when playing video games for long periods of time.

My DS is 14 and thats who I bought them for.

Newjobnewstart · 28/09/2022 12:50

Ive got DH a tile tracker as he is always losing his phone and keys. It can link to alexa as well. Will also get him the usual socks, sweets etc

Yousee · 28/09/2022 13:21

DH 37

  • his very own oodie as he's pinched mine for a shot a few times and I don't want to share!
  • pen multi tool
  • odd flavoured beers
  • great big bag of Haribo

DBro 30

  • star wars Lego
  • victorinox credit card multi tool
  • novelty rubber duck for his collection (he's a proper grown up with letters after his name and a serious job, loves a rubber duck 🤷🏻‍♀️)
  • great big bag of Haribo

DF 66

  • no idea, he's a nightmare to buy for but he is DBro's problem and I sort DM out 😆
polmnlj · 28/09/2022 13:59

I have got a Lego set for dh 41 but need to think something more personal. I think he would be happy if I knitted a jumper for him but I haven't knitted anything apart from socks for twenty years.

Mommabear20 · 28/09/2022 14:10

Don't buy for DF (a joint decision we made to stop buying for each other when I turned 21), but I always struggle for DFiL and DH! They're a nightmare! We'll probably end up getting DFiL a Amazon gift card and money towards a tattoo for DH 😂

YorkieTheRabbit · 28/09/2022 14:28

@Yousee 🦆 love it 😂

Surtsey · 28/09/2022 14:31

I have absolutely no idea. I can't even decide what I want for Christmas, let alone choose things for other people.
Confused

Jackienory · 28/09/2022 14:32

Just me 😊

AnneBoIeyn · 28/09/2022 18:43

Me and DD are clubbing together to buy DH his dream guitar - a Fender Vintera Stratocaster in Daphne Blue, since you ask 😄

We don't usually spend anywhere near as much but DD has just started her first 'proper' job and wanted to contribute to something special for him.

He'll also get a stocking with a bottle of whiskey, a book and some chocolates in it.

YorkieTheRabbit · 28/09/2022 22:43

@AnneBoIeyn that’s fantastic 😃

DH - SUP board after his last one got an irreparable puncture. Also whisky and new Richard Osman book.

DS (14) - mainly wants a cash contribution toward building a gaming PC. Getting a couple of other small bits like smart LED lights and one of those small crossbody bags to keep his phone and wallet. Stocking will be sweets, baking bits, Next aftershave, multitool pen, thunk cards and gift vouchers.

DF - I had this all worked out but plan has been scuppered. Was going to get tickets to take my parents to Boxing Day horse racing (they're fans) but they can't make it. So now I'm not sure. Experience gift vouchers of some kind maybe - afternoon tea/restaurant/theatre/gardening. They don't want 'stuff'.

DFIL - DH to sort.

MissyB1 · 29/09/2022 09:32

Dh - new work shirts/tie / jumper
Thick Walking socks
Heated pad for his sore back

Adult ds and his Gf - voucher for a restaurant.

14 year old ds - 2 football shirts
Football

Tour of football stadium

I bought something from this Etsy shop for DH 2 years ago, having got a tip from one of these threads. Only £4 and still rates as my most successful present ever - DH practically cried! So feel I should pass on the tip. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/headfuzzbygrimboid?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=646150599

they are prints that represent memorable sporting moments. Best thing is they are quite reasonable to look at, so I didn’t mind putting it up on the wall either!

FuckinHooray · 02/10/2022 21:57

DP- arctic monkeys tickets, whim hoff (sp?) book, arctic monkeys album (had to pre order it for the pre sale code!), probably some alcohol or a bacon subscription

ds- tickets for hot wheels live, a metal
detector, lights for his bike, a giant pot noodle with a special fork, some clothes and a new teddy!

ddad- some beer for his beer pump, something personalised from DS

happygertie · 02/10/2022 22:20

FIL will be a joint pressie with MIL we will get them National Trust membership

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 02/10/2022 22:28

DP just sent me a link to a book he wants. I’m assuming it was a gift idea and have pre ordered it already. Other wise it will be the usual. Lush, trainers and clothes. He’s pretty much got everything else.

MarmiteCoriander · 02/10/2022 22:43

I have a few ideas, but nothing bought thus far. Here are some thoughts and/or things I've bought in the past. Do the adult men have any hobbies? Gardening, BBQ, games, sports?

  • A BBQ cooking set which rolls up and everything can be carried on 1 shoulder
  • A BBQ smoker. I saw some on sale recently and can be used to smoke meat, cheese, garlic etc
  • I assume 15 is too young for an adult cooking course, but when is he 16? Maybe a voucher to a course/class. Waitrose have a cooking school, Billingsgate do seafood classes and others do basic butchery, cheese making, foraging etc
  • A chilli taster set. More of a novelty thing from wilko last year, that came with about 9 chilli sauces from around the world
  • Gold leaf gardening gloves
  • Wolff brand secateurs
  • Gliding, sailing or flying experience
  • Garden wildlife with night vision (I love using it to spy on hedgehogs)
  • Jelly belly jelly beans. I used to love a bag of these as a teen because they eat taste different and just like the thing they are supposed to be- mmm, toasted marshmallow, coconut, watermelon etc
  • A bird feeder that spins if anything heavy like a squirrel climbs onto it and spins them off. Birds can eat from it fine though 😀
  • An attachment for a wine bottle which adds air to it as your pour it
  • A wine carafe or one of those electronic corkscrew sets
  • A leather, toiletry bag which unfolds and can be hung on a hook- great for cruising holidays apparently
YorkieTheRabbit · 03/10/2022 09:00

@MarmiteCoriander Thanks 😊
I’ve previously bought Felco secateurs, gold leaf gloves and gauntlets . the 66 year old has a Kamado Joe so can smoke and bbq plus has most accessories.

We’re not near London so the cookery things there aren’t close but there’s a bakery in the next village to us that does classes. I’ve shown him basic bread making but they do classes on Italian bread, artisan etc. I’ll have a look, thanks

One has good bird feeders but the other has cats so I wouldn’t buy them.
Wildlife camera is a good idea, which do you have? 😊

YorkieTheRabbit · 03/10/2022 09:28

@MarmiteCoriander Just had a look at the bakery website, unfortunately it’s over 16’s only, he won’t be 16 until August but I’ll definitely keep it in mind for next year.

Dh (52) will be getting a soda stream to live in our shared office, and a birdhouse from the kids, which we can see from our shared office.

I am all about sharing the love

Mrsfussypants1 · 03/10/2022 09:51

The men in my life are all getting something to keep them warm and foodie bits.
Dh- ororo heated golf jacket, gg golf hat, sock shop bamboo socks and Chocolate
DB: kyd.dly blanket hoodie, Slipper socks, Chocolate and gift card
Sil: kud.dly blanket hoodie, Suede slipper socks, Chocolate, lego. ( were also giving sil and adult dd a joint gift card for a food shop)
Fil: heated throw and we'll pick up some locally produced consumables)

AlwaysGinPlease · 03/10/2022 10:48

AirPods, magazine subscription, boring aftershave, a new dressing gown, hobby stuff. Can't think of anything else so will be picking up tips!

MarmiteCoriander · 03/10/2022 12:20

OP- this is the night vision camera we bought about 18mths ago from amazon. I thought it was closer to £60 then I think. It can provide both still pics or short videos- depending on the setting. The only issue we've had is that it uses ALOT of batteries. You can plug it into mains, but we don't have anywhere to plug it in, in the garden. Rechargeable batteries might be an option though.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 03/10/2022 12:34

snugglyblanket · 03/10/2022 13:01

DH & I now tend to save money on a 'big' gift towards something for both of us/the family, eg new tech, holiday. He gets a stocking with the usual socks, chocs, etc & bits off DC. Previous gifts that have gone down well though are Lego/Pop vinyl versions of his favourite things, photo desk calendar, books/graphic novels, tickets (gigs, axe throwing), chipolo. For his 40th I bought him a collectible statue of his favourite movie character.

DF generally gets gin. DP (60s) have downsized so prefer consumables/tickets to stuff they have to find homes for.

Only "teen" boy I buy for is neurodiverse & tricky as his tastes aren't typical for his age but Xbox games/accessories/game pass, ear buds, room accessories, books & sweets have gone down well. Probably money this year.

My DD is similar age to the teen and has just asked for money or activities. We tend to buy her theatre tickets for Christmas. She & her friends (mixed sexes) have previously enjoyed an escape room, cinema tickets, inflatable aqua park, high ropes & an afternoon in a board game cafe.
