Commuter gifts?

Just wondered if anyone had a top 'thing' they use on their commute?

The commute is 1.5 hrs by train 5 days a week.

Is there a must have?

Budget, are you thinking a 'big' present or more stocking fillers.

For big present, I'd go really good bluetooth noise cancelling headphones, I have Bose QuietComfort and they are brilliant, used every day on the tube/train (only issue is they're so good I've more than once missed my stop on the tube). Or alternatively, a really nice stylish but comfortable and roomy bag particularly if s/he has to carry a laptop around with them. Or perhaps a Kindle or tablet for reading or watching TV on the train, if they don't already have?

Smaller things I use every day, my 'keepcup' reusable coffee mug, mine is insulated so I fill it in the morning before getting on the train and the coffee stays warm all journey, I often use it to grab a coffee in the office and/or on the way home too without having to use a takeaway cup. Or on a similar theme, how about a gift voucher to their favorite coffee shop (can you sense a theme, coffee is absolutely essential to my commuting sanity lol!)

I also have a nice matching insulated waterproof lunch bag that is nice to bring lunch in from home and keep cool all day - or you can get lovely bento style ones with compartments for different foods?

I also always carry my little slimline battery pack so I never run out of phone juice on my journey (my worst nightmare, that and having no coffee😱)

Other ideas, I spend a lot of time on my commute on apps of various kinds, list ones for chores and life admin, food ones for diet purposes, health ones to track exercise and step count, game, puzzle and podcast ones to pass the time, you could find out which ones your commuter likes and pay for upgrades if available? Or how about an audiobook subscription for them to listen to on the commute, or a digital newspaper/magazine subscription?

Leak proof travel mug is top of my list.

Other ideas:
Umbrella (a small fold up one)
Something warm like a scarf or hat

Do you need an umbrella on the train? Grin

I did a commuter pack as a gift for a relative starting a new job with a big commute

i put in a thermal mug

ear plugs— but noise cancelling headphones are the gold standard if you want to spend ££ (totally agree with the QuietComfort recommendation! They are the sole reason I didn’t need a divorce over lockdown )

nice gloves or wristwarmers

a nice scarf — either stylish or snuggly depending on the recipient

some mints or chewing gum, or a graze box subscription

audible subscription or voucher — especially good if you buy them headphones!

Costa voucher (or whatever coffee shop is near the station/ workplace) or teabags

That kind of covers off sometimes to mitigate many of the discomforts of a commute, I think.

Some wonderful ideas, thank you all!!

It is for my adult DD so no real budget, if I find the right thing. She already has AirPods but none of the rest really.

Things I loved/would love for my similar length commute: Stormproof umbrella, good headphones, personalised metal water bottle, emergency phone charger, Starbucks voucher, really good bag (Cambridge satchel backpack for me), purse and travel card holder, kindle, nice hat, scarf and gloves, nice tin of mints and gum, useful tin of paracetamol, plasters and a mini sewing kit.

A really good quality large pashmina - folds down really small and acts as a blanket or pillow when needed.

A kindle plus some prepaid books/vouchers or a subscription to kindle unlimited is a good one. If budget isn’t an issue.

Also, a mini perk up kit — not quite a first aid kit, but eye drops, paracetamol, plasters and tiger balm. In a nice purse or tin. Especially good if you are giving her a bag, it Canberra tucked inside as an extra gift.
