Assume I'm an idiot about nintendo switch

I want to buy a switch (not lite, not oled) as a shared gift for dp and ds. I have picked a few games too that they'll enjoy individually and together. I am waiting for black Friday bundles - is this right, or might they run out? I saw they don't usually get discounted as such, but bundled for better value.

I have ordered a soft pouch to keep it safe when not in use. Do I need a hard cover for when in use (ds will be almost 4 - he plays the ds and computer but is clumsy)? Do I need extra storage and if so, how much? Do I need steering wheels for mario Kart?! Do I need to do updates/downloads in the days before Xmas so it's playable? Do I need anything else?! I have never owned or cared about a console...

Also, reviews of paw patrol seem pretty bad, is it terrible?

@tranquiltortoise thanks so much for the expertise! I'd picked super Mario world, Mario Kart and final fantasy (for dp) so far, and maybe that's enough to start :) It's also both of their birthdays within weeks of Xmas so I'm planning across events!

I agree about ‘tv’ games, ds gets sucked in by them, spends his birthday/Christmas money on them only to be very disappointed in them largely. He’s had a few, the most notable one I remember was SpongeBob, discarded very quickly.

I assume sonic would be a safe buy then. He has played sonic and Mario on the ds :)

@tranquiltortoise one more, I was tempted by lego jurassic world as we've watched the Netflix and he likes dinosaurs. But is it too hard for a 4 year old to play?

is there an age rating on the Jurassic world one? Only often there’s quite a bit of reading in lots of these games, not so much a problem if you’re playing together but he’s struggle to move on through the game without being able to follow the instructions independently. I do find some of these games are just generally suited to older children but I haven’t seen this one you’re asking about so I don’t know if he’d be able to play!

Yes itage 7, all the lego ones are. I don't want him to be frustrated.

I would say the Lego games are too hard for age 4.

my son started with Lego City when he was 7 and struggled with bits of it. But that one is brilliant as your character gets to dress up/act as a firefighter, detective, farmer, astronaut etc - just so much fun for age 7+.

Btw look up Spiro the Dragon and Donkey Kong for age 4, they seem easier to pick up.
