Stocking for a 10 month old

My DD will be 10 months old at Christmas. I’m struggling a bit with ideas for her stocking. So far I’ve got three board books, some socks and a little spinny wooden toy thingy (you know the ones they always randomly have in Drs waiting rooms!). Has anyone else got any bright ideas?

I think that's plenty. She'll be more interested in the packaging than the toys at that age

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 08:31

Oh op… there is a reason to hate struggling for ideas. And that is because we are talking about a very young baby

EyjafjallajöKullStrikesAgain · 25/09/2022 08:35

No need to be rude. Didn’t say I hate it?

I'll be doing stockings for my 8 month old twins. I wouldn't have bothered except DD3 will question why they haven't got one otherwise.
Our stockings have a mix of fun stuff and stuff you need, so there will be a few toys but also some organix mini gingerbread men, some bath wash, socks etc.

I have so far got some rattly reindeer socks and some hair clips for DD who will be 11 months.

DS had a wooden worm/caterpillar thing and some wooden cars in his that I can remember. Oh and one of those toys where you push the bottom and they fall down because the string loosens and then they stand back up when you let go (bad explanation, sorry). I think I put a little ginger bread man in too as a treat.

If in doubt, stick some bubbles in!

It's difficult when they are so young but lovely to include them in the tradition at this age.

GrimmTales · 25/09/2022 08:41

I’d just add some scrunched up paper if you need to fill it.

My dd will be 11 months, she has a big brother so we have to do things right! She is getting a hair brush, a flannel wash mit, bubble bath, chocolate coins (not sure if she'll be eating them but I'm sure her brother can help.. ) a little duplo polybag, a jellycat, a book, a wooden spinning top, a sensory tube like a mini lava lamp, and some peppa pig cutlery.

EyjafjallajöKullStrikesAgain · 25/09/2022 08:43

Fantastic thank you!

You could add a bauble for the Christmas tree that then becomes her bauble for future Christmases.

Snugglemonkey · 25/09/2022 08:47

My baby will be just a few weeks old. I would not have a stocking, but her big brother has already commented about Santa coming to both of them and I don't want him disappointed. I don't have anything at all yet though!

What a lovely idea!

last Year ds was 11months at Xmas and we put in-

new drinker cup
winter themed dummies
christmas outfit
ella’s kitchen snacks
christmas pudding hat
board books
little car

we kept it to a few things because a) it was mostly for the other two big ones, why would father Xmas leave ds out? And b) he took forever getting through paper (although absolutely loved unwrapping them!)

MajorCarolDanvers · 25/09/2022 09:01

That's plenty. Baby will have no clue what's going on.

Bobbins2022 · 25/09/2022 09:03

DD is going to be 10 months. So far she has a buggy book and a light up bath toy. I'll probably add some bath stuff, hairbands (if she has more than 6 hairs by then) and maybe some chocolate buttons, which will probably be eaten by her big brother

Bobbins2022 · 25/09/2022 09:05

As for "baby will have no clue" that's true, but if you only plan to get toys at christmas and birthdays then it's a good time to get stuff that you can bring out over the year. So toy cars, little figures etc

LT2 · 25/09/2022 09:27

We don't constantly buy stuff for baby so using Christmas as an excuse to top up on toys is a good idea. Don't know why people are so funny about it. Babies are hard to entertain at times and need a rotation of different toys!
My ideas for my baby (he'll be 11 months at Christmas) is one of those sensory slugs, a touchy feely Christmas book, a light up bath toy, a whistle/kazoo (he knows how to blow into a recorder now at 8 months so I thought this would be fun for him too) and lastly new socks!

1224boom · 25/09/2022 09:40

I would put some musical instrument type things like some maracas, a chunky paint brush and some finger paints

psuedocream3 · 25/09/2022 09:44

How about some snacks, I'm sure they do a baby selection box, and they have gingerbread men snacks which will get used and fill the stocking. You can't go wrong with practical things like cutlery, new beaker, a small set of sensory balls, christmas themed bath toys - I bought these ones last year and they were brilliant link

Typo

i meant a reason you are struggling is because we are talking about a very young baby!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 25/09/2022 10:19

For my youngest's first Christmas (she would have been 6 months) I did a sensory stocking for her. I have things like one of those spiky light-up balls, solider foil blanket, coloured scarves, small musical instrument etc.

Other ideas
Bubble bath
Nice body cream
Rubber duck
Bath toy
Expandable flannel
Chunky crayons
Bath crayons
Hat and gloves
Novelty headband
Hairclips
Cutlery set
Sippy cup
Teether toy
Favourite snack
Soft toy
Christmas T-shirt or sleepsuit
Book

CoffeeChocolateWine · 25/09/2022 10:25

Really random typos in there!

I did things like...

tin foil blanket (how that got turned to soldier I have no idea!)

OhGingleBells · 25/09/2022 10:26

Christmas Ducks for the bath!

cliffdiver · 25/09/2022 10:28

When DD2 was a similar age I did her a sensory basket instead of a stocking.

The items in the basket were not wrapped, but the basket was wrapped and put in her stocking (mainly to avoid questions from DD1 about lack of stocking).

Scarling · 25/09/2022 10:33

When DS was a similar age he got useful things in addition to a few toys, e.g. a new sippy cup, wipes, plastic spoons, clothes.
